Just giving him a day off
Tito thought Pedey looked a little tired, so giving him a rest the day before a day off seemed like a good idea.
Maybe
But players need off-days from time to time. It’s a long season.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

In other words, Ellsbury has been replaced by a pod person.
Bunting his way on base, drawing walks, hitting homers. Clearly this is not the same Jacoby Ellsbury we had last year. Not that I’m complaining.
He has played well
Since they moved him out of the lead-off spot.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

That's what scares me
Because now I want him back leading off.

Crap
No runs, even though they had a runer on third with 1 out.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Not really
Strike out, bunt single, walk, and two short fly outs.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

If I had a dime for every time I saw this team go down in flames offensively after someone said that...
I would have…well, I could buy a nice lunch somewhere probably, I guess.
And usually it was me saying it, so…
Y’know what? Forget the whole thing.
by Ben Buchanan on Jun 14, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Not watching?
I’ll assume you’re talking about the first out (the second was a K). Beckett made a nice play. He came off the mound to field the ball and since his momentum (NG’s fave word) was carrying him toward 1B, he took it himself.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Who the heck would confuse those two?
Mueller, Millar, and Nixon, I could see. Ibañez and Werth, not so much.

Beckett’s change is too hard: 90 MPH. His 2-seam is 92-94.

None of them were.
He’s just gotten burned by 3 guys taking bad swings.
by Ben Buchanan on Jun 14, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Then Kott should be mixing pitches better.
I like the two consecutive curves to Dobbs, but gotta locate better.
Kott's calls were fine.
If people put bad swings on good pitches and happen to get hits, that’s neither part of the battery’s fault.

Thank God only one run.
I thought Green was gonna mess that up for sure given the way that was going.
And why does Johan Santana dominate almost every team, but not the Yankees?
Nick Green makes the play Castillo couldn't

Rocco!
That’s why he’s on the team. He hits lefties!
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Before the New Toilet opened
It was the biggest HR park in MLB.
Now it’s in second place by over 15%.
I think the stadium is nice but mostly because its all shiny & new. Their history is nicely on display – somehow the 2004 history was MIA ( ha, ha)
Its just too big - - lots of confusion inside & around the park – getting back to MetroNorth, location of elevators, etc
I was surprised there were lots of empty seats considering the crosstown rivals were in town.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
They really should've made it expandable.
So that they could have it at 40K for small series, and 60K for big series. Would’ve required a bigger field though, for what I have in mind. Is it legal for the field dimensions to change, from game to game?
don't know about game to game
but did read an article about the Mets possibly changing the dimensions at Citi if it didn’t turn out to be a pitchers’ park as was the plan but if I recall it was to be an off-season change
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Hmm...
Yeah, it seems like it would be a bit unfair. Can’t have them loading up on righty pull guys to face a LHP and shortening LF. Too bad – it’d cool to have the seats slide out into the field for more seating. Maybe seats could be made so that they stack, and could be raised up to form 1, 2, or 3 levels of seating in the OF.
Afternoon All!
Go Sox!
Cora up; bases loaded, no outs for the Mets.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

I remember he was a slugger in The Show 07 for PSP.
Went [blog name] 3 times in one game. And no, I don’t know how I f’d up the lineup to have him batting at Fenway.
I don't think you can do that in games, it's all auto set-up.
I think I tried to double switch one too many times or something.
" another hit for Julio Lugo"

In play, run(s).
Someone needs to make a shirt saying that on the front, with In play, out(s) on the back.
The spot is CURSED!
You saw what happened to Pedroia!

Yeah.
One of the talking heads on ESPN made a good point – what big name pitcher will want to sign with them and pitch in that park, against an insanely good AL East?
a big name pitcher
who wants to be “closer to his family”; “play for a winner” , “be part of the mystique”— in other words – someone who wants buckets of money
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Nice AB by Lugo
They’re loaded for Ells.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
They're playing the Rays
So they can go up 20-0 for all I care.
Against the Sox, though, they better go belly up.
Hard to score on a single followed by two walks.
On the other hand, 84 pitches through 3 innings for Happ.
why is he still pitching
6-0; 1st & 3rd- no outs
Captain America up
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
again, why
I watched in amusement & horror as Girardi let Pettitte “Dice K” his way to a loss yesterday. The bullpen was still when there really needed to be action.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Girardi really can't manage a whole team.
Good catcher and all, great with pitchers, IIRC, but he never gets his pen going at the right time.
HA!
“yo-han” looks like a big yo-ham in his game day pic…he looks SUPER excited to have his pic taken
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Well, geez, he's not even pitching right now.
Back to our game – WTF? Happ’s pic is rotated like 45 degrees.
With an 11-run lead, A-Rod becomes a very dangerous hitter
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

the Mets will make a game out of it

He might have to.
Burnett’s been sitting a long, long time. 45 pitches and counting thrown by the Mets in the bottom of the fourth alone.
Ed Valentine over at PSA

Santana can either be lights out or his change up is going to end up in the right field porch...
Matsui is also pretty evil against southpaws
This was the game that the Mets were suppose to win… Yesterday’s game was suppose to be the blowout.
Beckett's out of touch with his inner hitter
Forgot to grab his bat before heading to the on-deck circle.
Okay, I know we need a good young catcher, and that Bryce Harper's gonna be great and all...
But now he’s enrolling in JuCo so he can get drafted next year. Plus he’s a MFY fan and think’s he’s the best ball player ever. Kid’s lame.
is it me
or does Orsillo seem panicked lately or overly excited- crossing into Sterling/Kay/Waldman territory. Maybe its easier to notice him without Remy

The first really hard hit ball this inning
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Also, the Jonas kid from my Oregon Trail game last night died right after I logged off.
Snake bite finally did it. I made it to within 100 miles of Oregon before dieing of exhaustion.
Orsillo is that you?
That inning wasn’t great but its over. Come on Sox, get the runs back
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

he aint playin’

Oof. AAAA line-up for the Sox today, eh?
"You know you're having a bad day when the fifth inning rolls around and they drag the warning track." - Mike Flanagan, Baltimore Orioles pitcher, 1992.
No DH, no Pedey, no Tek, no Drew
But the offense is doing OK given all that, actually, except for the usual LOB disease.
That’s pretty much how Beckett talks in his post game interviews. I find him quite amusing, intense, angry..like Sheffield in a way — just less scary than the “I will beat your a$$” aura of Sheff
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

"Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?!"
And then they did, and he never really regained legitimacy.
Sucks, ’cause he was pretty awesome aside from one misinterpreted statement.

Oddly, the Gameday description for the highlight clip of Rocco was the same:
“Rocco goes boom” Unfortunately, I could not watch it. :(
The Red Sox need to sign him
they are losing money every time he gets to the plate. Just nip it and pay the man. He is not cooling off at all. If he goes 280 with 35 + HRs and 130+ Rbis, his agent is gonna just sit back and count his money.
Bay doesn't want to talk until after the season
Basically he is looking for the highest price, and there could be many offers
Ive heard the same
I think Theo is waiting for Bay to go into a slump so he can use it as a tactic in negotiations and also waiting for Holliday to heat up to keep speculation about the Sox going after him in the off season. All bluffs but probable.
They are trying to get a multi year deal..
The only reason Holliday is a factor, if Bay doesn’t sign in the off season, the Sox will offer something to Holliday. Bay will get much better offers in the off season than doing signing now. The Sox would like to sign him to a probably a four year deal. He may want a longer deal, or a Tom Hick type of owner who will give him some obscene amount.. Everything points that Bay is delaying negotiations during the off season. The Red Sox would be in a huge position if they can signed him now, because they can probably save money than in the off season. It has nothing to do if Holliday is going to dump before the Free Agent Deadline…
I dont agree
His best negotiation point is NOW. The Red Sox know the Yankees will be in on him, Holliday is also available, people in Boston love him and he might cool off.
Sign now get the 17 a year and never pay for a drink/meal in Boston again.
Tough error
Utley made a great take-out slide.

He has been pretty good, much better than Dice-K. There doesn’t seem to be a market for him, and you don’t know what Smoltz will do. Buchholz and Bowden will get their time. Why just dump Penny?

We're not doing terribly
For such a f*cked up order. Lugo at lead-off? Green at second base? Ells hitting in the 2-hole? No DH? It’s a wonder we scored five runs.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Yeah, but it would usually be a drop off in hitting.
If DP wasn’t slumpy all season. Sad fact: Green has more homers.
As I said last night
I suspect Pedroia has been playing injured most of the season. (Another WBC-related injury.)
Kinda.
OMG it totally just went full circle. Baseball = Tex = Leigh = PB = PB&J Time song = Baseball
It's a running joke....
PB has more sex appeal than Leigh.
Also, Hey everyone, just got back turned the game on.
We are losing…..Lugo’s fault?
No, more of Beck, Bard, and Saito's fault.
With a good heaping of help from Mr. “You Throw It, It’s a Ball” Umpire.
He's as good a scapegoat as anybody else today.
Bullpen outside of Masterson doesn’t win any prizes, either.
Thank heavens for an off-day tomorrow.
Ahh
I normally just guest Lugo if he was in the game, and I havn’t had a chance to watch.
IDK.
While that game was horrible from the beginning, this one had the big swing from us being up big to losing even bigger.
But that was against an AL East team.
Today, it’s interleague, and we got a real sh!tty line-up right now.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
But 6 runs with only four regular starters?
Pretty good.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
It was almost a throwaway game today
Like a split squad B team playing in Spring Training. Francona probably figured he could afford one like this after winning the first two and having an off day tomorrow.
Under the circumstances
There’s not much Tito could have done: between the grind-it-out battle that is every Sox-MFY series, Friday’s extra-innings game, and last night’s rain- and Dice-K-induced workload for the regular lineup and the bullpen, they were pretty hosed. They just had to get out of today’s game with as little long-term damage as possible.
