Dominic DiMaggio Dead at 92

http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/05/former_red_sox_1.html

7-time All Star Red Sox Centerfielder who played alongside Ted Williams.

Lead the league in runs scored in 1950 and 1951.

One of the great all time Red Sox leadoff men with a lifetime OBP of .383 and 100 career stolen bases playing in an era where the steal wasn't part of the game.

Served his country in World War II.

RIP Little Professor

R.I.P. Don

You will be greatly missed.

I didn't like the old one very much. I didn't see the ball there very well. - Julio Lugo on the old Yankees Stadium.

Aww man.

Great player, overshadowed by two of the best players in history for his entire career.

Teddy Ballgame said until the day he died that Dom belonged in the Hall.

So has Pesky.

All three gave up significant stats in order to serve their country, and, unfortunately for them, only one has been able to make into the HOF. The voters need to think about setting up a special recognition for guys like Pesky and Dom, because they definitely would’ve been in if they didn’t serve in WWII.

Dom’s age 25 most similar player is Coco (when he was still in Cleveland and a good player).

Odd...

We scored 7 runs last night. A player wearing #7 hit a homerun to give us the lead.

Papelbon with a 58-run home run?!?!

Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!

Umm... what?

I was observing that 7 was an important number that day – it used to be Dom’s.
