OTM fans rejoice: Drew to bat lead-off!
Well, don't get too excited.
It's only for today, with Ellsbury out of the lineup with a tight hamstring.
However, for some people, the thought of Drew atop the lineup seems like the restoration of natural order. Unfortunately, the Youk-light lineup still looks a little strange, even with the 1-2 punch of Drew and Pedroia at the top:
1 J.D. Drew, RF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Jeff Bailey, 1B
8. Jonathan Van Every, CF
9. Nick Green, SS
-- Justin Masterson, SP

Some of the Sox may enjoy this lineup---particularly Varitek, who is unlikely to be batting many more days from the 6 spot in the lineup.

Look at that last four...
You know you’re in trouble when the title character in Weekend at Bernie’s is batting in the middle of your order.
Thank god we’re starting against Carl Pavano
Rock me, sexy Jesus...

HUZZAH!!!
Now, if we could just work on the 3, 5-9 spots. Like that Bay’s been batting 4th with Youk out.
What's wrong with the 9 spot?
Having Green is doing a great job as a #9 hitter. In fact, I’d be inclined to put Ellsbury at 8 ahead of Green (Ells-Green-Drew-Pedey around the turn).
Green isn't that good
He isn’t going to keep up a .280 average. Give him enough ABs and he’ll end up in the .240-.250 range. Just look at his BABIP — it’s .354 right now. While his career BABIP is somewhat high, it’s still 33 points lower than that.
Simply put, there’s a reason he’s the #3 shortstop on this team. He’s fine for that role, but he isn’t an everyday player for any team other than the Washington Nationals.
For the reasons RSN mentioned...
And the fact that it will be basically whoever’s left over after we fill in the other 8 spots.
