FINAL SCORE: Twins 4, Red Sox 2
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jason Bay (1 for 4, HR)

Wild pitches are reason No. 381 that I love baseball.

But there's no reason to love them after last night. The Red Sox had six wild pitches last night, four from Daisuke Matsuzaka and one each from Manny Delcarmen and Justin Masterson. It was a modern day record for number of wild pitches in a game.

Wild pitches or not, the Red Sox still lost. There was no offense and Dice-K (5IP, 9H, 3ER, 3BB, 6K) couldn't hold them down. Offensive highlights including Jacoby Ellsbury extending his hitting streak to 22 games and Jason Bay hitting a solo home run.

Last game with the Twins is today at 1 p.m. Josh Beckett is on the hill.

how much can the rotation change?

At some point this season I expect to see Bucholz and Smoltz in place of Dice-K and Penny (a decent trading chip). That means Theo and the gang decide to bench Dice-K. I doubt he could pitch any better out of the pen than he does as a starter, but I do know that Bucholz has zero fear of the strike zone. Dice-K just isn’t a tough enough pitcher.

Dice-K isn't going anywhere

Except maybe the DL, if he is hurt. I know many are counting on Smoltz. But what can you really expect from him? Penny and Wake have been the Sox’ two most consistent pitchers so far this season. Penny will probably get moved at some point, assuming the Sox can get something for him. The other spots are fairly set. Buchholz will have to wait for his opportunity.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
