A lot of people think Jason Varitek would be better off if he gave up batting left handed. after all, his numbers from the right side do far surpass those from the left. But think about the adustment. Hes been batting lefty against right handed pitchers his whole career.

Jason Variteks career ops against leftys sits at .841 which is incredible for a catcher. And is 76 points higher than against righties. Therfore, a lot of people a raving about how he should give up switch hitting.

But Varitek batting righty is so used to facing pitches that break into him, if he was to switch to righty against right handed pitchers, he would have to learn how to hit a righty curve all over again.

And at this point, the 37 year old Varitek has no time to learn a new skill. Thats why i get annoyed when i hear people suggest batting giving up switch hitting as a soloution to his woes when he's struggling.
