Say no on Delcarman for Nick Johnson swap
Why do the Sox need a first baseman with Kevin Youkilis hitting .400?
Trading a great relief pitcher for a veteran 1b man is no good. I have faith that Theo won't pull the trigger.
Lastly, I can see the point that rotoworld makes about how good Johnson is doing and that the Red Sox have the pitching depth to make up for the Delcarman loss, but i still wouldn't do it.
Do you think the Red Sox can get more than Nick Johnson for Manny Delcarman?
I sure do.

Absolutely! Maybe a package of Delcarmen and prospects for one of their bats. But we probably don’t need that anyway with Pedey, Lowell, JBay, Youk, and Ellsbury! And Theo is loyal to his most loyal players (Papi, the kids, gave Timlin a lot of years, Tek….)-Manny R. and some of the others had some baggage along with it. Manny Delcarmen is a Boston kid who’s persevered in his Red Sox career to become a premier set-up man.

This trade makes no sense
Especially since we have a backup OF/1B about to come off the DL. I would not expect to see a trade involving any of our bullpen members for anything less than a catcher of the future. And even then, I would expect the exchange to be a whole bunch of prospects, rather than a member of the bullpen itself.

Johnson would be our DH primarily.
Which means the FO would have given up on Papi if they pulled the trigger.

Thing is that MDC is at particularly high value right now.
But whether he will continue to be is a question. He has mediocre control, gives up a fair number of baserunners, and just generally isn’t as good as the ERA suggests. Plus, he’s inconsistent on a year-to-year basis. Now, obviously, Nick Johnson of all people isn’t exactly consistent, but when he’s healthy he’s proven to be a good hitter—at least in the NL.
On top of that, our bullpen is stacked. Ramon Ramirez, Okajima, and Papelbon are a ridiculously good top-3 to ignore a resurgent Saito, a returning Masterson, and everyone’s favorite flamethrower in Bard. MDC just seems indulgent when there are potentially holes in the lineup in Ortiz. Kotsay isn’t gonna be “that guy”.
Obviously, you give Ortiz more time to see if he’s gonna return to some sort of form. He did just hit his first bomb. But if it seems like that’s not gonna happen, I say you pull the trigger.
