Jake Peavy close to trade to White Sox
Sorry, Red Sox fans: no Jake Peavy for you this year. It looks like the other Sox got him instead:
The San Diego Padres have agreed to trade staff ace Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox and are waiting for Peavy to decide if he will waive his no-trade clause, sources tell ESPN.
Peavy has a full no-trade clause and can veto the deal.
ESPN's Peter Gammons reported that according to sources, the White Sox will send the Padres four players to complete the deal.
Sources told Gammons that White Sox shortstop prospect Gordon Beckham is not among the players in the deal. Beckham was the eighth overall pick in last year's amateur draft.
ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine reported that White Sox players in the deal include left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard and left-hander Aaron Poreda, a former No. 1 draft pick.
If the White Sox do grab Peavy, you can expect to see that 5.5 number in the games back column drop. Grabbing Peavy makes the White Sox an immediate contend in the Central.
Poll question: how will the White Sox do this season if they acquire Peavy?

Funnily enough
The ChiSox aren’t pitching badly (4th in runs allowed with 181). It’s just that their offense is floundering: only 150 runs in 38 games, which averages to 3.94 runs per game. They are dead last in the AL in runs scored, and 13th in BA and 12th in OBP and SLG.
Considering how many trades they’ve done in recent years, I’m surprised anything’s left to send to San Diego. And why wouldn’t the Padres wait to hold someone else’s feet over the fire?
Now we get to see how the vaunted Peavy performs in the AL. My guess; not so well

If this trade goes through, this would give the White Sox a very solid 1,2,3 and make them a much tougher team to deal with in the playoffs. However, I dont think this makes the Sox an instant favorites to win the AL Central, but it would make the battle for the playoff spot very interesting.
Ive got to figure Kenny Williams thinks the Sox have maybe 1 or 2 more shots at winning a WS and then they will rebuild.

Big Deal
He will get torched in the AL in that park. Or at least will not look so great. There goes what is left of the White Sox farm…

It looks like Peavy is going to deep six the trade...
My guess is Peavy and his agent, Axelrod are playing Hamlet, so they can get a better PR response, and not royally piss off the Padres’ management. Peavy is basically saying no, and hinting he wants to go to a NL club, probably one with a pitcher’s park.
Along the non Giles trade to the Sox that Giles also deep six with his no trade clause, I wouldn’t be surprise that there are not many no trade clauses in Padres players’ contract in the near future.

Peavy's no idiot.
He wants to stay in the NL because it makes him a better pitcher. Moving from a pitcher-friendly NL park to a hitter-friendly AL park will not do wonders for anyone’s record.
For your consideration:
Consider Roy Halladay in a pitcher-friendly, NL park. He might give Johan a run for his peripherals.

You guys give far too much credit to Detroit, Cleveland and Minnesota. As I remember the White Sox won the AL central last year.

Not saying that they will finish last.
Just that they suck – it’s true. I’m picking the Twinkies, Royals (!), then White Sox, Detroit, Cleveland.

Maybe just because they are hot
but the Tigers do look better this year. With the resurgence of Verlander and the addition of Jackson (whose results are good so far), a more stable pen, and the ever-present hitting, they do look more like people thought they would last year. Not a great team, but in that division, gotta think they have a good shot.

Hmm
right now the Twins are beating the White Sox 20-0, and they are still hitting in the top of the 7th. Crazy.

Power outage.
No way in hell they could play if they didn’t have a roof. Florida is getting dumped on – Mother Nature enjoyed Papi’s slump-busting so much she decided to end the drought in Florida.
