Sick and Tired
How about putting some batters away with two strike counts? Why not play like men against the Rays? I'm really getting tired of this nonsense. They should really consider sending Ortiz back to Pawtucket for awhile. No homers yet? Sorry, but that is what he is getting paid to do. He is as bad, if not worse, than Varitek was last year. I think the wrist injury had a permanent effect on him and he's simply getting old. Van Evry (spelling?) should be starting in RF and Drew should be the DH. Ellsbury needs to be on base more if he's going to call himself a lead off man. They should consider flip flopping him and Pedroia in the order. He's batting below .220 against lefties.
Our starting pitching is an abomination. Thank God for our pen. And there are even a couple of relievers that make me hold my breath when they take the mound (Saito and Lopez). Beckett is done as far as a dominant pitcher. What did he do in Florida after the 2003 World Series and what has he done in Boston since 2007? Absolutely nothing. I think the injuries from last year, although healed, have had a permanent effect on him as well. His power is done and he has no movement. Penny is pitching worth his name and it's sad when your best pitcher is a 42 year old knuckleballer. Dice-K came to the majors as an old man. He was throwing continually in Japan sice the age of 18. He never has panned out for us.
Could you imagine where we'd be in the standings right now if it wasn't for that 9 game home stand against bad teams? Remember, we lost two out of three to the Rays to start the season and look at what we're doing against them in Tampa. This could very well turn into a long season. Our pitchers (starters and relievers) need to stop giving up two strike hits and full count walks. Ellsbury needs to get on base and Ortiz needs to start hitting. Our bull pen and defense is what is keeping us in there right now, but when your starters aren't getting past the fifth inning your bull pen is going to start getting taxed.
I hope that I can chat with like minded Sox fans who follow the team like I do.

I was getting excited during the 11 wins in a row, but then
something bad happened. Maybe itis only a coincidence, but every game that Lugo started has been lost and some quite badly lost. Varitek seems to be reverting back to missing with his swing quite badly, and Ortiz’s bat is very slow. That slow bat may be good for htting against the shift, but it is not good for power.
I am starting to get quite worried that this team is weaker than I thought a few days ago, and I think some shake- ups are in order. They need to be able to build and sustain drives, and God only knows what is happening with the starting pitching ! For starts, keep Lugo out, maybe watch Varitek closely and minimize his play games, and have Ortiz checked medically and now. If his power can’t come around and soon, what then??
NG spirals further into depression.
Hey, NG, I’ve been reading Antigone in English, and I found out your Oracle [see NG’s icon] was the one who told Oedipus’s father about his fate. Irony much?
I agree with many of your points.
It is frustrating as hell to watch us lose over and over again to the Rays. However, I think you’re being a little dramatic. First of all, we are not allowed to send Ortiz to Pawtucket unless he voluntarily agrees to the assignment. But I do think we need to overhaul the lineup. Move Ells down (and not to the 2nd spot, that wouldn’t do any good) and move Papi down. I personally think Papi will come back, but right now he is killing us. My lineup: Drew, MVP, Youk, Bay, Lowell, Tek, Papi, Ells, Lugo.
Beckett will be fine. He always has bad stretches. He has been unlucky this year with a .398 BABIP. And a 58.6 left on base percent. That won’t continue. His K’s are there. He has just had some trouble with control. He’ll be better. Also, his power is not done. His average fastball is the fourth fastest in baseball on the year.
Interesting line-up
But I don’t really like 4 righties in a row.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Yeah...
I don’t think Tito would either. Could have Pedroia lead off and Drew in the 2 hole. I just think we have to avoid having our two hitters who are struggling the most hitting 1 and 3.
I say
Drew, DP, Youks, Bay, Papi, Lowell, Tek, Green, Ells. That way, Ellsbury acts as a second leadoff. You don’t expect your number nine guy to get on a lot, but when he does, why not let him steal bases?
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Personally, I don’t like guys stealing in front of my power hitters. I’d rather have the guy steal bases in front of singles hitters. Turn their singles into runs. Ells will score from first anyway on doubles and homers. Also, its more costly when a guy gets thrown out in front of our best hitters. If he gets thrown out in front of Tek, I dont really care.
Switch Drew and Green.
Moves Drew far back in the order, And puts some non-power guys in front of speedy Ells.
Green S
DP R
Youk R
Bay R
Papi L
Lowell R
Tek S
Drew L
Ells L
Well, three righties in a row isn’t great… I’d just like to see it once.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Why Green first?
because he is small? I mean, hes not even fast. We want our best hitters at the top of the order, not our worst.
