Angels' promising pitcher, Nick Adenhart, 22, killed in car crash

Nick Adenhart, 22, of the Los Angeles Angels was killed early Thursday morning in a tragic, hit-and-run car accident just hours after pitching. A minivan reportedly ran a red light, striking the sports car that Adenhart was driving, causing the car to hit a telephone pole. All three passengers in the sports car were killed.

Adenhart was one of the Angels' top pitching prospects. Although he struggled last year, both in the majors and the minors, he was a very promising, young player. In his first and last game this year Adenhart went 6 innings with no earned runs. He gave up 7 hits, struck out 5, and walked 3.

Condolences to the Adenhart and Angels families.

This is painful

I hope his family is doing okay. The article made it appeared he was an only child.

This is a sad day for ALL Baseball fans.

What a talented kid. May he rest in peace.

Such tragic news.

My thoughts go out to his friends and family, the families of the others who died, the Angels and their fans.

Word is that the driver of the other car had a suspended license and previous DUI conviction. Terrible.

Just a terrible waste of a bunch of young lives.

Correct. The loser

even ran from his vehicle. Took authorities a half hour to find him…but they did. He is being charged with vehicular manslaughter among other things.

Had great response on my Yankee H8ers Facebook fan page as well. It’s great to see fans of all teams are able to come together when things like this happen. I don’t even wish anything like this to a Yankee. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates.

Boras cried when he was announcing this at a news confernce.

I didn’t think he was capable of showing emotion like that – Adenhart must have been a great kid.

Adenhart was not driving, he was a passenger

Correction – per all of the reports here in Los Angeles, the car was driven by a 20-year old female, who was also killed, along with another 25-year old male passenger. Such a tradgedy for all of the families. I watched the Angels news conference live and saw a grown man start to talk and then break down – I felt so bad for him. Then it said that was Scott Boras, who I’ve never seen before, but who I know by reputation and have never liked. But he was sincerely unable to maintain his composure, it was sad. Anyway, I’ll be watching tonight’s game, thanks to my Direct TV Strike Zone package, and hope the Red Sox win this series!
