Sen. Kennedy to throw out Fenway first pitch
If able, Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park on Monday:
Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer for the past year, returned to Capitol Hill last week after an extended absence. Because of his medical condition, Kennedy's availability for Monday is uncertain.
The Red Sox also plan to have their players walk past fans in seating areas throughout Fenway Park during pregame introductions Monday.
I've never really been for politicians throwing out first pitches (except, of course, the President), but I think in this case it's a little more special. Personally, I'd choose Bill Mueller to do it, but I never get my way...

Am I the only one
who is pissed that Opening Day is an afternoon game? If it were in the evening, more people (especially those of us with 9-5 jobs) would be able to watch it.

But it’s ALWAYS a day game (I think).
I’m not. I have class at 8 a.m. and free (to watch a game, at least) for the rest of the day. Need to find a good TV/atmosphere to watch it…

DVR
I’m going to avoid all media til I get home from work, then watch it later.

I've got mad willpower.
I’ve done this in the playoffs more than once.

The game ought to be in the afternoon so that even kids can watch
The real problem is that Congress still hasn’t made Opening Day a federal holiday. Then we could all take the day off and go to Fenway.

How about we make this deal: Congress can keep dealing with the steroid scandal AS LONG AS Opening Day becomes a federal holiday.

Agreed
All Star Weekend and Trade Deadline and Winter Meetings should be holidays as well

Let's start with Opening Day.
Then see the economic repercussions.

Going to DVR the pre-game, and picked up the iphone MLB app so I can listen to the game discreetly at work

I hate liberals....
But I hope the senator is okay enough to throw out the pitch
Kennedy is slime, but I don’t wish death upon anybody

I think this is just going to depress me.
He won’t be able to walk out. He’ll be lucky to throw the ball 10 feet. Whether you think he’s “slime” or not, the guy has been a force for so long, I’d rather not see him like this.

Good for Teddy.
Love him or hate him, the man is a lion.
Even if he can’t throw out the pitch, it’s nice they are honoring him.

Looks like rain.
Too bad, I will likely be home from work with sick daughter. Was planning on subjecting her to the game (she is 2 and thinks all sports are “football”).

Ted "I'm a very good swimmer" Kennedy, huh?
Any chance that any of Mary Jo Kopechne’s relatives will be there?
Hell, might as well get OJ on the friggin’ mound

I’m super excited to hear this news. I wish Senator Kennedy well.
