He's back! Red Sox acquire Kason Gabbard
Who knows why the Sox did it, but they traded for former Red Sox Kason Gabbard:
The Rangers have traded left-hander Kason Gabbard to Boston, the team who traded him for Eric Gagne in 2007, for cash considerations. The Red Sox have assigned him to Triple-A Pawtucket and are expected to send him to extending spring training. Gabbard, who was made a reliever this season, had struggled at Triple-A Oklahoma City. In his last appearance Tuesday, the left-hander allowed six runs in one inning.
I'm not sure why we need him, but sure. He's on the team. I wouldn't expect to see him with the big club any time soon...

Dear Texas,
We want Engle Beltre back too, How about this: We send you Bowden for Teagarden and Beltre. I hope this finds you in good health.
Forever you’ll be ours (to own),
The Boston Redsox
P.S. We hate the Angels too, It was so funny to see Halos Heaven’s reaction to Beckett’s suspension being reduced.

Can't hurt
He’s off to a terrible start and Texas actually toyed with converting him to a LOOGY/lefty reliever… so the price was… nonexistant. Jed is going on the 60 day DL, so Gabbard is one extra level of depth for a couple months at least. We already know the player really well, so perhaps they think they can fix whatever he’s doing wrong right now.
This embarassment of riches pitching depth has more use than just insuring against injuries to our starters (and making the Pawsox look great, of course). These extra starters can be traded to fill other needs. If we get Gabbard straightened out and starting again he might very well bring back a Kotsay type if Baldelli can’t be relied on near the deadline (for example).

Teams don't make the same mistake twice
Gabbard will get us nothing of value. Penny maybe.

Hey, it can’t hurt to have minor league depth. If some freak injury bug happens and our starting line is inexplicably suddenly depleted, it’s good to have another capable starter in the minors to fill in

Maybe they want a long guy out of the pen now that Masterson is starting? but I hope he doesnt have to see the majors.

i say we have him start a game, make him pitch 8 scoreless innings, and then immediately trade him for another allstar vet :P

Preferably not one whose surname sums up his career.

Not harmful to the roster
his addition isnt harmful to the roster, they might have signed him in case someone got hurt and to work out of the bullpen

Gabbard was solid for us maybe because of our pitching coach. Texas is no place for pitchers. This may be a smart move.

When the Kason goes rolling along...
It’s nice to see him roll back to the Sox, I liked the kid. I agree with GreenGrizz. Texas is no place for a pitcher, and the Sox seems to be THE place for pitchers. To have a young guy like this spend some time around guys like Smoltz might be a good thing. The pitching coaches know him pretty well, this seems like it is another of Theo’s wheel and deal jobs. It would be nice to see him work out the problems and step up and contribute. Besides, the pink hatters would say that this is ‘karmic’, or something, and helps to fix the blemish that was Gagne-with-a-spoon.

I would guess
somebody in the organization thinks that he knows how to fix what has been ailing Gabbard. In any case, there’s very little risk here.

By the way, Drugs Delaney...
Good call with “Stifler”. I agree he’s a dead ringer.

Gabbarrd
was very good with the Sox. Glad to have him back and hope he returns to the form he had in Boston!

I've always liked Gabbard
Actually, the last game I’ve watched live was the one where he dominated the ChiSox. He looked wonderful, I still think he has the talent to be in a ML roster.
