GameThread: Twins @ Red Sox, night of doubleheader
Minnesota Twins at Boston Red Sox, Apr 22, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Earlier today the Red Sox beat the Twins 10-1 in seven innings. Now there's another game ... that probably won't be played. But if it does, here are the starters:
And if the game isn't played, you can always head over to Stanley Cup of Chowder to talk about game four between the B's and Habs!

Sox game is on.
For now.

So far
Penny looks good, and Liriano looks better.

geez this is what id expected a number 1 versus a number 8 to look like. But it usually isnt the case with the Bruwins.
The Caps (2) are having trouble with the Rangers (7)
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Bay is not a good off-speed hitter
Unless it’s a mistake.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Is Gameday not working for anyone else?
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Bailey's already done more
in one at-bat than Rocco has all season.

Forget Rocco
How about Kris Karter
Yes, I know very well how it’s spelled.

Don't look now
but Dave Roberts is stealing the show…

in class, what is going on?
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

3-0, Sox
Drew walk. Tek HBP. Bailey 3-run HR into the first row of the Monster seats on a change-up. Penny looks good.

I love the caption
Dave Roberst “member of the 2004 Red Sox”. Are there any Sox fans who don’t know who he is?

not really sure who Dave Roberst is
Dave Robust is a pretty strong young lad though, and Dave Roberts is a pretty decent dude too

hey y'all ...
I’m a Yankees fan, but I come in peace.
What’s up with the Green hats and letters on the jerseys? Is it some Earth Day promotion or something?
Yep
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Hi Yankee fan!
I think it is related to Earth Day
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Recycled jerseys from St.Pat's and the patchs from last year's Earth Day.
Skipping both would’ve made sense.
Aside:
Did you know that today is Administrative Professionals’ / Assistants’ Day? In addition to being Earth Day…

Cool. Good for you.
I didn’t get anything, but I listened to a bit of the Sox game at lunch.

ive decided to drop my campaign against ellsbury
he seems to have been doing better….and I wouldn’t dream of breaking up that nice 4-5-6 combo we got going

Ellsbury: 1st to 3rd on a single to LF

I wish they had a camera filming one of the puddles around Boston
as Papi was running to third on the Wild Pitch. It would’ve been a nice Jurassic Park-style effect.

Nice to see Papi coming around ...
WHO IS THAT LARGE MAN running to 3rd? Is that Papi?!
Anyhow, look forward to this weekend.
Hopefully, the Yanks will take 2 of 3.
best of luck to you

have a good night Yankee fan
Yankee Stadium will be empty this weekend- this time on purpose.
I hope they are good games.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
It's just the super-pricey seats are that are empty ...
The rest of the Stadium was pretty much full this weekend.
If you head over to some of the blogs covering the Yanks, you’ll see photos of the other decks, and even the lower bowl, where the seats that are glaringly empty are the $2600 ones.
Yeah, you read that right … $2,600 for one seat at a ballgame!
Yeah I know
It’s just fun to bust on the Yanks.
I mean, I do I get where they ( Yanks brass) are coming from but its just bad timing all the way around. They had no clue the economy & the Yanks WS run/playoff hopes, were gonna go south at the same time.
$2600 might have been considered fair mkt value by some when the Yanks were on top.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

That has to be an error
Green has to make that play

Translation: From Green to Ellsbury.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Gameday:
Liriano’s out pitch is a change-up
Bailey loves and hates to face a change-up. He walks.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
I just realized who is playing SS for us
Great Hitting + Atrocious Defense = HANLEY RAMIREZ

You may be overvaluing the offense
Just a bit.
I’d say more like pre-BoSox Lugo, really. Sort of what we signed up for originally.
by Ben Buchanan on Apr 22, 2009 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Besides which
His defense is a different sort of terrible. He’s got good range and a cannon arm. It doesn’t balance out, but it mitigates more than Lugo’s “Hey look, there goes a ball. =D”

Ells with the sac groundout.
Does it count as an at-bat if it’s a sacrifice groundout?

Wow Green has a third error today?
I hate to say it, but when the fuck does Lugo come back? Dude is gonna be a reliability before we know it.
Green is like Lugo with offense.
At least when Green errs 3 times in 1 day, it’s in a doubleheader…
by Ben Buchanan on Apr 22, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Good point
But he will eventually become a liability.
Now this is what I don’t understand:
The Sox tore up Francisco Liriano who is supposed to be like the second coming of Johan in Twinkie Town, yet they can’t get a hit off Matt Guerrier?
What the hell?
Still
Better than getting JUST the errors.
For posterity:

For one error, he hit a bomb
The other 4, I am still waiting to see.
I will count that go-ahead double in the O’s game as one.
I want 3 more homers by the end of the night
Lugo, by the way...
Went 0-3 with 3 Ks in his first rehab start in Pawtucket. Drew a walk, but still, 3 Ks.

He's not quite ready yet
Wait for him to slowly work some defensive lapses into his daily game, then call him up.
Not even close.
He hasn’t even GIDP’d to kill a rally yet. Give him time.

Penny just isn't gonna be that great this year.
He will probably be the best 5th starter in the MLB, but I just worry about him. Too many hitters are getting amazing contact off him.
I'll take a quality start any day of the week.
Just avoid that Baltimore shit.
by Ben Buchanan on Apr 22, 2009 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Ellsbury is making good contact
Whether or not he’s getting on/getting hits.
Still, it’s tempting to test Pedroia – Green at 1 – 2
nice DP for dusty

It gets better each time.
Love it when the opponent’s runners are erased like that. Unlike many other double plays, it’s almost impossible to botch.

In fairness, the Twins really have a terrible offense. Again.

Our team is horrible
Imagine if we signed Texeira and traded Buchholz and that bum Lester for Santana. We would be like the best team ever.
No way.
Joba and Kennedy, I mean Buchholz and Lester, are the best guys ever. They’re way too valuable. We should trade Melky, I mean Coco Crisp, for Santana and Chase Utley. That’s a gooD DEAL BECASE MELKY IS GONA BE A STAR AND HIT 30 BOMBS ONE DAY AND THE OTHER GUYS ARE KINDA OLD! AND THEN WE CAN WIN 150 GAMES AND ONLY LOSE 12 BECAUSE A-ROD SUX LOLZ
AND THE RED SUX ARE TERRIBEL WE SHOULDA NEVER GIVEN THEM NICK GREEN BUT AT LEAST THERE ARE A LOT OF SEATS FOR ME TO GO TO THE GAME TODAY OH I FORGOT I LOST MY HIGH-PAYING WALL ST JOB SO I HAVE MUCH TIME BUT MAYBE I SHOULD LOOK FOR WORK NO NEVERMIND THE CITY OF NEW YORK WILL BAIL ME OUT LIKE IT DID THE YANKEES, IN FACT I’M GONNA BUILD A NEW HOUSE ON CREDIT THAT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME BUT ISN’T BECAUSE MY WIFE AND KIDS CAN’T AFFORD TO LIVE THERE BECAUZ I’M NOT WORKING ANYMORE BUT AT LEAST IT’S PRETTY AND ON ESPN :)
