A-Rod to have surgery
Alex Rodriguez's brother, Joe Dunand, says that Rodriguez will need surgery on his right hip. (Link)
He'll have the surgery on monday, and will need about 10 weeks to recover. This will prevent him from playing in the WBC and keep him out of the Yankee's lineup until mid- to late-May. This is a big hit to their offense. If Teixeira starts slow (.256 career BA in March/April vs .290 overall career average) they may lose some crucial early-season games in a tight AL East. If the offense starts out weak, will the Yankees miss the playoffs?

Ha!
Our third baseman is healthier than their third baseman.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

That GIF amuses me.

Hate to say it
and I have little to no expertise on the subject, but what are the chances this cyst is related to the juice?

Unlikely
That’s not to say that it’s impossible, but it’s far more likely the injury results from the repetitive trauma of subjecting a joint to rapid torsion. You see it more commonly in pitchers’ shoulders.
Then again, steroids have a way of imposing greater stress on ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, so maybe it’s related after all.

I hear "cyst," I think "tumor."
But I am an ignoramus, medically.

The vast majority of cysts have nothing to do with cancer. In this case, it’s probably just a little fluid. The bigger issue is the probable cartilage damage the media are reporting. If that’s true, he’s out until the all-star break at the soonest.

Partially torn labrum, I think.
Like Mikey. It prolly caused the cyst.

Funny, I hear “tumor” and I think “A-Rod”.
I read there was a 75-80% chance he could play the entire season with his hip issue and he just might be able to milk some sympathy and deflect from his other issues. This guy can not stay out of the news even if he wanted to…poor thing.
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

No surgery for A-Rod?
At least according to MFY beat writer, Peter Abraham.
This may work out better for a few reasons:
(1) It could affect Slappy’s overall play.
(2) It keeps the steroid story in the news. (If A-Rod was on the DL, there’d be no reason to report about steroids—unless there was another allegation).
(3) If A-Rod was on the DL, the MFY night get off to a bad start. Then, the media would consider him a savior when he returned, thus negating all the steroid pressure.
According to Abraham:
Surgery, if needed, would knock him out four months.
The cyst was large and the hope was having it drained will lessen the stiffness Rodriguez felt.
They’re going to cut down on his time in spring training in the hopes he can get through the season.
This is a similar injury to what Mike Lowell had. Cashman refused to say what degree the tear was.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

A-Rod sucking in the lineup is a lot more enjoyable than A-Rod on the DL.

If he plays, we should have a pool on how long it takes before they bench him or force him to get it fixed.

I wonder if this is like Schilling’s situation last year — the team told him no surgery because they wanted him to try to come back without it, and he ended up needing surgery anyway. Had he had the surgery right away, he could have been available down the stretch, but because he waited, he lost the whole season.
What a great use of $28M!

This surgery is the biggest load of crap to come out of A-Fraud in a while, looking for sympathy and to hide from the steroid rumors and this surgery gives him an excuse for his power numbers to be way down this year. To believe that he only took steroids for the few years he says is ridiculous, he was probably juicing all of last year and finally got tipped off his name was being released and it was time to do damage control. Just another great moment from the Evil Empire

Welcome to OTM.
That is a crazy long name. And it’s kinda hard to fake a torn labrum and cyst.

Im not saying he completely is faking it I sure he is some what injuried but what I am saying is that the timing of all of this is a little suspicious. An the timing of the surgery now instead of waiting til the end of the season gives sometime for the media attention to die down
