Who should finish out the Red Sox order in '09?
Mike Lowell won the last poll handedly, so it's time to figure out the last two spots in the lineup. Here's what it looks like now:
- Jacoby Ellsbury
- Dustin Pedroia
- David Ortiz
- Kevin Youkilis
- Jason Bay
- J.D. Drew
- Mike Lowell
Poll is attached

Depends
If Lowrie is playing I would say Lowrie then V-Tek. If Lugo is playing I would say V-Tek then Lugo.

Hmm. Guess that might make a difference…

I use the assumption that Lugo would only be starting because he won back the job by impressing in spring training, so then I would still bat him before tek

Catcher bats last.
Lugo actually managed to get on base last year, and Lowrie, who was clutch for a good stretch of the season. From July 21 – Sept 6, a total of 40 games, Jed batted .282 / .373 / .451 with 19 extra-base hits (1 HR, 3 3B, 15 2B). He sagged towards the end of the season, but for a while Lowrie was on fire. And all of this was with a hand injury. I think we may get good production out of shortstop.
Meanwhile, we have a collection of poor hitters (Bard, Tek) and prospects the FO has no confidence in vying for catcher. Catcher bats last.

Your argument
is exactly why i would do the opposite. The difference in at-bats between the 8th and 9th spots is not significant. However, there will be plenty of times when the #9 hitter leads off an inning. Would you rather see Lowrie, Ellsbury, Pedroia, or Tek, Ellsbury, Pedroia.

Who leads off the inning doesn't concern me
What’s worse – starting an inning with a guaranteed out, or having that guy come up with the bases loaded and 2 outs because the pitcher walked the 7th man to get to him?
Over the course of an entire season, the 8 slot hitters will have slightly more at bats than the 9 slot guys. Accordingly, the better hitters should bat 8th. Giving good hitters more at-bats is a good idea (which is why Ells shouldn’t lead off, at least until he proves he can get on-base more regularly).

That's it, I'm done voting
and this is my last rant about this. All those trollers who put Ellsbury first stuffed it up.
Drew should bat first, Ells last, carcass 8th, and the rest is per normal order as listed above.

Seventh, i'd guess.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!

Lugo or Lowrie
You don’t want a slow catcher before your fasted runner. Tek needs to bat 8th of Ellsbury’s speed is going to be waisted to offten

Often?
Tek would have to get on base.

So guys,
in the NL they bat he pitcher 9th all of the time. He is almost always their worst hitter. Why would the Sox not bad their worst hitter 9th?
