Jed Hoyer Poaches Head of Scouting Jason McLeod
According to a Peter Gammons tweet, the Red Sox head of scouting, Jason McLeod, is off to San Diego to join Jed Hoyer as his assistant GM.
While it's no surprise that Hoyer would take some front office talent with him when he left, the loss of McLeod is a significant one. McLeod was brought in by Theo Epstein in 2003 to help realize his $100 million player development machine. McLeod did just that, leading to some of the Sox farm system's most productive years.
Good luck in San Diego, Jason. You'll be sorely missed.

hey, if he doesn't want to be here then he is a bum !
Release Jason Varitek before ST is over !
Do not pay Jason Bay !!
Trade Buchholz !!!
He has no particular ties to the area, not like he grew up a Red Sox fan
From what I’ve read he’s a San Diego native and worked there until 2003 when he came over to us. He’s just going back with a nice big raise.

Though if you don't have SOME loyalty to the team you broke out with, then eh.
But I can definitely understand going home for a promotion.

Right, if it was a team other than the Padre's where Hoyer just signed with...
It would be less excusable. I’m sad about this, but I understand it. I just hope we can find a good replacement for him.

Big loss
But I’m sure the Sox will be able to find a suitable replacement. Theo has my cell, so…
When is Ben Cherington going to get gobbled up? Another NH native that will be gone soon, I’m sure.
Theo on who to replace McLeod:
“Our new Scouting Director will likely be someone from within the organization who is familiar with the Red Sox scouting systems and philosophies we have used for the last seven or eight years,” Epstein wrote. “Ultimately, the Red Sox Way of scouting and development is our foundation; it’s more important to our success than any one of us individuals who are lucky enough to work here.”
I'm thinking maybe one of the pitching scouts that have been so accurate these past few years.....
I Honestly have no idea how I’d approach this if I was Theo…..

"I am Jason McLeod of the Clan McLeod!"
There can only be one!

What's David Chadd up to these days?
I see he was in charge when we draft Pedroia, Lester and Papelbon.
Or let’s just poach someone from the Rays/Rangers.

A Rays scout might have his eyes light up thinking about all the guys the Sox could actually sign.

Rangers have had some good drafts in the past
Yeah Feliz, Salty and Andrus came over in a trade, but Smoak, Holland, Kiker, Purke, Hunter, Borbon, Teixeira, Danks, Teagarden, etc. were all drafted by them. Of course, I have no idea what their scouting situation is or how compatible it is with the Sox philosophy.
They also drafted Drew Pomeranz and Anthony Ranaudo back to back in 2007. Now both are 1st round (both probably Top 10 at this point too) picks in the upcoming drafts.

It's a lot easier to draft top prospects when you're always picking 1 through 7-8.
Manny ain't the only bad man.
Sawx actually drafted Tex outta HS
but obviously he didn’t sign.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
Well, yeah, but there were....issues...surrounding that selection
Allegations and hurt feelings and such.
