How low are the Red Sox willing to go in their search for a new shortstop? Well, according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald they've "expressed interest" in free agent Bobby Crosby.
Crosby is a recognizable name thanks to being a former first-round pick who was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2004, but in the five seasons since then he's hit just .239/.302/.366 in 2,020 plate appearances, including a measly .223/.295/.357 for the A's this year.
And unlike the similarly weak-hitting Adam Everett--who the Red Sox are also said to have contracted--Crosby is far from an elite defensive shortstop. If their interest in Crosby is for real the Red Sox have truly reached the bottom of the shortstop barrel. He hasn't been a starting-caliber player since 2005 and has barely been utility man-caliber during the past two seasons.

Circling the bases?
Try “circling the drain”.
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
How to express my feelings about Crosby as our shortstop?
…
Ah. Yes…

That should do nicely…

Don't freak
The Sox “contact” just about every free agent on the market and if he was to be signed it would be in a UT/backup role.
If they're only SS FA option is Crosby, just move Pedroia already
Thankfully, that won’t happen, to either of those options

Why not just put Big Papi at shortstop?
That would make about as much sense as Crosby.
Or better yet, are any of the Patriots’ offensive linemen lefthanded? Because I think a 300-plus pound lefty with no agility would be roughly equivalent to Bobby Crosby.
Haha! Matt Light or Wes Welker would make fine Shortstops....
This is a complete no, Theo shouldn’t even be talking a major league contract with this guy. He is worth only a minor league contract with a ST invite at most…..

btw
I see you’re a Wisconsin fan (and student, right?), so as a Dukie I will congratuate you on the win.
But did they really have to rush the court? Every team that fucking beats us rushes the court. I guess its more a compliment than anything, but still, its just annoying.

Yes, we definitely do.
If you guys are gonna be a top-5 team, you’re gonna have to accept the jubilation of those that beat you.
Thanks on the congrats, though. That got really too close for comfort at the end.

The end was fun.
I’m excited for our freshman Dawkins (the kid that hit all those threes).
I understand the jubilation and how you guys rarely play Duke and that we are oftentimes the biggest game on everyone’s schedule, but still. You guys compete at the top of the Big Ten every year. You’re usually in the tournament and seeded pretty highly. Shouldn’t you expect to compete with every team in the country on your home court?

Yeah we started the year not even close to being ranked
Even after beating Maryland we’re still only 40th. This win probably won’t even put us into the top 25.
