Goodbye, Javier Lopez. The most overrated LOOGY in recent Red Sox history.

Javy
Didn’t really like Javy’s recent trend against lefties. Lefties got on base at a .366 clip against him in ‘07 (with an .805 OPS). 2008 was better, holding lefties to a .182 average, but he gave up WAY too many walks (especially when you face one batter), as lefties got on at a .305 pace. It’d be different if the OBP was .230 or whatever.
And ’09 was just bad.

Innings
Someone has to be the sloppy innings guy, bridge guy in the pen and Lopez did it fairly well for a few years
Notwithstanding the truth of "Ben Buchanan's" comments...
It’s hard to be a true Lefty One Out GuY when you can’t get the one out.
I guess LOOABTFIUATPOFGY doesn’t roll off the tongue

he was good
Miguel Cabrera IS the solution to our problems.
Release Jason Varitek before ST is over !
Do not pay Jason Bay !!
Trade Buchholz !!!
his walk rate was terrible his whole time with the sox
just terrible. Not good at keeping people off base.
He got lucky for a while, but it was bound to catch up before long.
What happened to him was not luck running out.
Not solely, anyhow. He took a serious nose-dive. I remember him walking one guy on four pitches, and at least one, if not two of the pitches bounced in the dirt BEHIND the batter. BRUTAL.
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
I have a five-tool player in my pants.
In April, during that brutal opening sequence
There was a stretch where they called him out of the pen three nights in a row. He was never quite the same afterward.
for a LOOGY he was pretty good as an outfielder
I don’t know if that was a highlight or a lowlight of the 2009 season. Possibly both at the same time.
Although I don't recall the Sox using him as a LOOGY
It tended to be more as a LOIGY, just like Okajima.
It’s good that he’ll get a fresh start with a new time—I’m just sorry to see it’s Pittsburgh.
Is it possible
that he was Javier Lopez the second baseman, and we just got confused with the Mariners? I mean both have declined…
