Jason Varitek Player Option? REMIX!
[Note by Randy Booth, 11/10/09 2:02 PM EST ] According to the NESN report, Varitek reported that he will pick up his option, not necessarily that he had picked up his player option. We could see Varitek officially pick up his option today.
OK, so maybe Jason Varitek isn't back in Boston yet:
Contrary to a report, Theo Epstein just said that Jason Varitek has not yet picked up his option . That could come tomorrow, however.

It’s like a condensed version of LAST off season all over again.

Didn’t the NESN report say that he will pick up the option, and that it might be formalized on Tuesday?

yeah, he’ll pick it up.

By the way, I was reading a list of possible non-tenders the other day, and Tim Dierkes mentioned Kelly Shoppach. You heard anything like that at all. Seems a little bizarre.

Tek will pick up the option
Sox will cut him
Tek will sign with some NL team
Tek will be rejuvinated and bat 270/365/470
Sox fans know the story.

Meh...
At least certain female Sox fans would stop paying attention to the team, so I wouldn’t have to explain that Ells is not able to catch anything hit within the limits of Boston.

He will excercise the option. He will start the season with the team. And if Expo of Wagner shows enough promise, they’ll cut him mid-season and give a young guy some AB’s. That’s my hope at least.

Moral of the story?
Don’t criticize Jason Varitek for picking up his option so quickly. He CLEARLY read your post, got embarrassed, and changed his mind for a day and a half.

Let's see...
His ex wife took half of their money/wealth
He was lucky to even get a contract as nice as the Sox gave him in 2009.
He would be lucky to even play in MLB for another team let alone for the minimum.
He will pick up the option.
The Sox are being nice to him because they want him as a coach and possible future manager.
