Sox, Wakefield Agree to 2-year/$5 Million Contract
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI, the Sox will not pick up Wake's perpetual $4 million option.
Wake will be guaranteed $5 million--$3.5 million in 2010 and $1.5 million in 2011. The deal has options which could net Wake a total of $7 million over two years, $1 million less than the Sox would have paid had they picked up the option this year and next. This is a good deal for the Sox and for Wake, who needs just 18 wins to be the Sox' all-time leader.

looks good for both sides
less risk for the team after this year and he’s guaranteed his chance to make the record books. I love it.
This surprises me
All you hear constantly is how Wake’s $4mil/yr is the best bargain in baseball.
Looks like both sides are realizing Wake is 2 and done?
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
Or he's trying to cement his legacy as the best bargain ever.
In case the whole “last great knuckler” thing falls through.

Glad to hear it
Wake was already on one of the most team friendly contracts in history and just made it even friendlier. He is certainly unique. Hope he gets the 18 wins, he’s an all time Red Sox.
No problem
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
