So far
we’re talking an extra 3 outs. I hate bitching about calls, but there have been some AWFUL ones.
Joe West is the worst
I can’t watch this. I’ve counted at least 5 bad calls against the Sox this game, that was ball 4 to youk. They’re taking outs away from us.
To be fair
You know I hate to blame the umps, but Bucknor and West have both been horrible tonight. One of the worst games I’ve ever seen
West was
ringing up strike 1 on the 3-0 to Youk before the windup.
For cyring out loud. that ball was 8" off the plate.

no, bad range
look at the UZR stats. The way to get good range involves
a) positioning
b) reads
c) speed
Jacoby has 1 of the 3.

Buckner just got that check swing right.
ok, we have 6 outs to get some runs. Time to produce
Look, Shilling is a douchebag but he said this would happen
Q: Have you seen the umpiring crew? Joe West, C.B. Buckner and Greg Gibson. Does it worry you?
A: It is embarrassing. Listen, Joe West, I think he is an ass and I have had problems with him forever but here is the thing – Joe West is a pretty decent umpire. Greg Gibson and C.B. Buckner? They suck. They’re horrible, horrible and they are not the only ones. The first thing that comes to mind is, on a merit system or an achievement system to be in the postseason.
Q: It is a fraternity, because, in the postseason some of these guys make more than they do in the regular season.
A: Listen, Joe West hates the Red Sox. I never wanted Joe in Fenway. He called Game 6 of the ’04 playoffs. Behind the plate he called it pretty consistent, he’s good. He’s not big, he’s more of a hitters ump. Unless he doesn’t like you as a hitter. I would make it a point to find out the guys that Joe West doesn’t like as a hitter because I knew that my strike zone was 34-inches wide no matter who was up.
The thing I have with Greg Gibson was that he was having an argument with Tito and he said "Tito, do you realize you are arguing with the best young ump in baseball right now?" Dead serious.

never thought I would say this
thank heaven for JD Drew.
it’s really sad how much better our fielding on the right side is than it is on the left side (excepting Gonzo)
when Jed is fixed
which I dearly hope he is. The Sox don’t really need Hardy, his stick is weak. Doug Melvin will find some other team to cheat him for his shortstop.

I'd like to see some quality at-bats
maybe some runs, from the Sox. Not much to ask for.

Welp
Still ticked off, but nice play by Drew. He does deserve credit, and if the improbable happens, I already know who to thank. : )
Meh, not really.
Just need to minimize bullpen casualties.

casey kotchman?
pinch hitter with .572 OPS?
Really? Is this all we’ve got?
Shouldn’t the PH be a better hitter than the guy he’s hitting for?

I'm really getting tired of this come-from-behind in the series stuff.
Look at their last 3 ALCS. They might have to do it this series too.

Same idea though, they tried to make another huge comeback.

A splitter here or there.
But an all-fastball pitcher is much more common than an all-Slider one.

Ells
Had a very fine season. His power and OBP aren’t where they should or could be, but everything else is pretty damn solid.
IMO, not every player needs to do everything well to be a great player.
I think somebody on fox thought that he should win the gold glove this year.

When's the last time we HAVE had offense against Lackey?
He’s almost no-hit us twice?

2007?
I recall Lackey having horrible splits against the Sox, mostly in Fenway, but the sample sizes were kind of small.
Yup, that was it.

Our pen is fast
their closer can get rattled. i hope we get a few hits on Fuentes and get in his head. he won’t be able to shake it for the whole series. he’s glass.
They deserve the win
We’ll get them tomorrow One win in Anahein and we swing the home field advantage on our favor! Go SOX

just saying..
why give up? There’s no advantage to doing it, and you’ll miss the occasional comeback.
It’s not like Anaheim has a rock-solid bullpen. Can’t we just let the game happen without needing to predict what will happen next?
Sure there is.
Letting yourself down gently is infinitely more easy than coming crashing down with hope till the end. Add in the fact that, with no expectations, a win is a bigger boost. It makes no sense to believe in hugely improbable things.
