Q: Have you seen the umpiring crew? Joe West, C.B. Buckner and Greg Gibson. Does it worry you?
A: It is embarrassing. Listen, Joe West, I think he is an ass and I have had problems with him forever but here is the thing – Joe West is a pretty decent umpire. Greg Gibson and C.B. Buckner? They suck. They’re horrible, horrible and they are not the only ones. The first thing that comes to mind is, on a merit system or an achievement system to be in the postseason.
Q: It is a fraternity, because, in the postseason some of these guys make more than they do in the regular season.
A: Listen, Joe West hates the Red Sox. I never wanted Joe in Fenway. He called Game 6 of the ’04 playoffs. Behind the plate he called it pretty consistent, he’s good. He’s not big, he’s more of a hitters ump. Unless he doesn’t like you as a hitter. I would make it a point to find out the guys that Joe West doesn’t like as a hitter because I knew that my strike zone was 34-inches wide no matter who was up.
The thing I have with Greg Gibson was that he was having an argument with Tito and he said "Tito, do you realize you are arguing with the best young ump in baseball right now?" Dead serious.

take it from a Brewers fan
if it wasn’t for cynicism, I don’t think we’d have a fandom at all

Haha
As someone who knows a ton of Brewers fans, this is so true.

Hey, MassGal, guess what I'm going to admit?
I was wrong about him – he’s still a pretty damn good player. Would be nice to see him not be able to reach a ball though…

Ignore the UMPS & Dump Our Auto-Outs
If we lost 2-1 then our obsessions with the shitty Umps would deserve to be the story of this game . But 5-0?! This is not about the blind umps anymore — Hit the fucking ball. We let meatballs float by on 3-1 counts looking for a walk over and over tonight. That is not how you win in the playoffs. Swing the bat and make something happen. Yes, running up the pitch count is smart but we have to be aggressive.
We have corpses in the lineup. Literally dead people. $160 million, and some of it is being paid to people who actually seem to not be alive.

The sox have exactly 2 runs in their last 28 innings on the road. 2 of 3 last road games were shutouts
we can’t hit starters on the road. it’s been a problem all season.
is it the end of the world? no. are there contract extensions we can say ‘thanks but no thanks’ to? YES.
i’ll start worrying if Beckett doesn’t show up large with some furious screaming bats behind him tomorrow. For now, I have all the Faith in the world …that I’ll see monday’s game from the Monster Seats and we’ll kick the hell from these drama queen Angels.
I tip my cap to Lackey, shake my fist at our strikeouts, and pray that Blindman Bucknor gets lost on the way to the park tomorrow. And then he ends up in a deserted alley where he’s devoured by wolves
by Fred on Oct 9, 2009 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Blind umps cost us this game.
Take away 10-15 pitches from Lester’s pitch count and Hunter doesn’t hit that 420 feet. Give him another three outs, and we never see RamRam.
Manny ain't the only bad man.

that is true if the score was closer. but 4 hits?
that hurts
by Fred on Oct 9, 2009 1:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
We lost the "phantom tag" series 4-1
and we still complain about that.
We can complain about this too. Bad calls run good baseball. Lester painted the corner on Hunter and got ball three and got robbed twice by CBB – that shit gets in your head.
Manny ain't the only bad man.

Off Topic, but the Cardinals lost because of what looked like a
flyball that hit Matt Holliday in the nuts.
He says stomach. But the replay looks lower. Our loss tonight feels a little better after seeing that in slow-mo
