For all of you thinking Takashi Saito would be back next season...

Well, that's just not going to happen now. The Red Sox outrighted Saito, removing him from the 40-man roster. The Red Sox will most likely not exercise his 2010 club option.

Can't they simply resign him though for less than his option?

I assumed they liked him well enough in limited use.

Geez?

I thought he was one of our better relievers. Hey, but what do I know, as I have only watched 99% of the games this year? Anyone with 100% watching % know more??

Too expensive, I guess.

He had pretty crappy peripherals and was never used in high-leverage situations.

His FIP and tRA suggest he’s been fairly lucky and is pitching more like a 4.00 ERA guy.

Now, I know you don’t love our fancy stats, but between ‘08 and ’09, 80% starters with the highest FIP-ERA (the luckiest, that is to say) had significant regression, so it’s an established real life predictor.

Besides which, $6 million is plenty.

Nice move, I love it!

At 6 millions he was too expensive for a mop up, low leverage situation reliever ! Let the Dustin Richardson era begin!

"That was a lot of fun… You just keep pounding balls into the gap. The one thing you don’t want to do is hit a home run. That’s a rally-killer." Jeff Francoeur
