Yes
IF you let your wife dictate your eventual FA city, you are a pussy. Sorry. If you cave to your wife on where your family is going to live and what company you work for you are a pussy.
Again, sorry if it hurts, but I started my career long before my wife showed up. I am not going to move 3000 miles and start with a new company without having major input in the situation.

First off,
he has wanted to be a yankee since he was a kid. When he asked his wife about where she would want to live she agreed with his decision. How does that make him a pussy, because he actually cares what his wife thinks. A true man does what is right for his family as a whole, not just what he wants. Bottom line he wanted to be a Yankee and his wife agreed with his childhood dream. You must be a real catch.
by bostongrowup on Jan 7, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Bottom line
and stop spinning, if he wanted to be a Yankee why didnt he just sign? OH yeah, bc he wanted to milk the Yankees for another $25 million. Its peculiar that every player that wants to be a Yankee since birth need $20 million + extra just to play for their childhood dream team. LOL!
You can try and spin Teixeira and A-Rod all you want, but they are mercenaries, nothing more, both controlled by the puppet master Scott Boras for his personal, financial and professional ego. Using their wives to explain away their greed is not what a “man” would do.
Nice personal attack at the end. Coming from a guy who named himself “bostongrowup” and trolls the Red Sox boards, I am guessing you live in your mother’s basement with little or no contact with the opposite sex.
But, in an attempt to be fair to my wife, ill pass along your comments.

Didn't CC
Also say something along the lines of “wanting to be a Yankee all his life”? Anyone with have a brain can see through this bullshit. Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia both wanted to be Yankees since they were offered the most money from Steinbrenner, and in CC’s case, much much more money than anywhere else.
by Gnick on Jan 7, 2009 4:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
If CC did say that, then that’s too funny how much of a BS’er he is, considering they had to specially send out people to talk to CC to convince him that playing in NY isn’t all that bad, and he himself expressed concerns about playing in NY and preferring the west coast

go scratch your ass
the sox offer was revealed to be 212mill with vesting options for years 9 and 10, whether not he wanted to be a yankee whatever but dont talk anything about us outbidding over anybody especially considering that nats offered 190 .. know you crap
truth is you all penciled this guy in the lineup aand were so pshyced to get him and he got an offer from the yanks and said no to the sawx so stop crying and deal with it, you all wanted him didnt get him so now hes a _ (every expletive ever made) bunch of babies over this eh??
by I Bleed Pinstripes on Jan 7, 2009 6:26 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Wrong
The Sox’ top offer was 8 years/$170 million. In response, Boras asked for 8 years/$176 million with easily attainable vesting options, bringing the value to 10 years/$220 million. The Sox said no. That account is from Tony Massarotti, a Boston Globe writer who wanted Teixeira more than anyone. Mazz just can’t seem to leave the subject alone.
If you want to know the truth, Sox fans were split on Teixeira. As for the team, the Sox’ FO set a value on a player—like they always do—and stuck to it. When Boras asked for more, the Sox walked away.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

So basically...
he and his agent are both greedy bastards, and when no one else would comply with their demands, they went to the one team they expected to do whatever they say. Problem is, the MFY were the only team left with enough money, so they had to accept a lower offer than they wanted ’cause the MFY finally used a bit of leverage. Do I have the story straight?

Okay, so you completely just cherry picked that article. it was 8 years/$170 mill, and if that article is true (despite the fact that it is somehow the only one reporting it), the 2 vesting options would only be attainable if he remained an elite player, which probably wouldn’t happen after 8 years. It’s skewed to claim that they offered 212 mill because how high the bar was set for the last two years to vest is a benefit for the sox (getting to keep an elite player for 2 more years if he is still performing at elite standards), not him

In fairness,
from what I’ve read, Tex specifically did not want to play for the Sox because of the way we handled him coming out of HS. He thought the Sox spread rumors about his signability, when he claimed that he would not agree to a price before being drafted. He held a grudge this whole time.

Seriously?
“Two weeks before Christmas, I talked to [my wife] Leigh about it again, and we kind of decided that, hey, the Yankees are where we want to be.” – Tex
I’m just so glad that he decided to toy around with our FO and have them fly down to meet with him a week before Christmas. No wonder Henry sounded so pissed after the meeting. He ended up wasting a lot of time and money to see a guy who had already made up his mind. I’m happy he’s not with us – the Yankees gave him way too much money and way too many years.
And, as long as Arod is a Yankee, they’ll never win a WS.

I didn’t—and if you look at earlier threads, you’ll see others didn’t either. I’d say opinion here was about 65% in favor of getting him. Some of that was just to keep him away from New York, although many looked at Teixeira as an upgrade.
Teixeira has every right to play anywhere he wants and, it seems, the MFY were his first choice. That’s fine. I wish him all the success A-Rod has had in the Bronx. However, your post is stupid. This is a Red Sox site and the posters here are entitled to their opinions, whether MFY trolls like it or not.

baseball history
where are you guys in baseball history, you won a 5 championships and then dissappeared for 86 years. I’ve been to over 20 games at Fenway including the all-star game in 1999 and thousands of games at Yankee Stadium and the all star game in 2008, I know which organization has more class and history. The difference between our two teams is you compare your team to the Yankees and we worry about our own team. Opinions are what makes the game so fun for fans, but rattling off child like remarks just makes you look stupid. I have all the respect for the Red Sox and the way they have run the organization last decade, but most of your fans just want to fight rather share our common love for the game. Teixeira simply did what he wanted to do, nothing wrong with that!

Laughably weak writing
“where are you guys in baseball history, you won a 5 championships and then dissappeared for 86 years”
You talk about 1900-1990 as if is somehow relevant to the current baseball situation. We have won 2 of the last 5 championships, defining us as one of the most successful baseball franchises in recent memory. You wouldn’t say, “Germany sucks now because they’re full of Nazis.” Because what happened 60 years in the past no longer pertains to what is happening now.
“I’ve been to over 20 games at Fenway including the all-star game in 1999 and thousands of games at Yankee Stadium and the all star game in 2008”
Somehow this qualifies you as an expert on the subject of how organizations are run? If I randomly decide to go to Kansas City for two months and attend 20 Royals games that certainly wouldn’t make me know anything about how “classy” the Royals management is. In fact I walk by a local park in which a middle school baseball team plays almost ever day, and based on looking at the grass in the outfield I can tell you that they are a terribly run and classless outfit.
“The difference between our two teams is you compare your team to the Yankees and we worry about our own team.”
Literally two lines before you wrote that you wrote, “I’ve been to over 20 games at Fenway including the all-star game in 1999 and thousands of games at Yankee Stadium”. So, in the course of 100 words you said that based on comparisons who you drawn from the two franchises’ stadiums the Yankees are better, and then went on to say that as a Yankee fan you’re above comparing the Yankees to the Red Sox. I would expect a 5th grader to know that immediately contradicting yourself isn’t a good way of writing.
" Opinions are what makes the game so fun for fans, but rattling off child like remarks just makes you look stupid."
Basically what you’re saying here is that opinions are what makes the game fun, as long as our opinions don’t disagree with yours, considering you have clearly defined our opinions as “child like (sic)”

Wow, I didn’t realize how full of it he was:
- “The excitement of being a Yankee and calling my family was very important to me because this is the closest I’ve ever been to them, being in Atlanta and L.A. and my first few years in Texas.” ummmm, if that really is that great and important to you, you would have signed with the Nats or Baltimore, bother which are 100 times closer to your family
- “I would go to Orioles games … and I would wear a Yankees hat. Back in the ‘80s and ’90s, that wasn’t a safe thing to do in Baltimore.” If that statement is 100% I take this back, however, I think tend to think he’s full of it and would be talking about growing up wearing Expos hats if he signed with the Nats, otherwise this wouldn’t had been the first time we’ve ever heard of him being a yanks fan. Funny how in 2007 he talked about wanting to play for Baltimore and claiming he rooted for them, not the yanks. He must have forgot about how he use to wear Yank hats as a kid when giving that interview. [http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/06/AR2007070602124.html]
- “The Yankees hadn’t made their decision yet, but that’s when we made our decision,” Really? So why did you continue to meet with other teams including the red sox? Either your full of it and didn’t decide to go with the yanks until they dropped a big paycheck on you, or your telling the truth and your an a**hole for making other teams continue to court you and fly out to meet with you

From Gammons
As you probably remember, there was a lot of testiness between Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira when they played in Texas together . . . and I don’t think Alex really cares about communicating with other players, we know [that] from Derek Jeter. Also, we haven’t really seen Teixeira in a situation where the expectations are really that high, and he’s going to have to deal with them in New York. It will be very interesting to see how it goes with the Yankees.
