Gregg Zaun is smarter than Mark Teixeira
Former Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun says that he'd love to play for the Red Sox, according to the Globe:
"I'd love (to play in Boston). My agent has had ongoing talks with Boston and I would love to see that happen. I feel one of the things I have going in my favor is being in Toronto for so long I have a deep knowledge of the AL East. I would also love the challenge of playing in Boston, where every day you go to the ballpark it's a meaningful game and you're fighting for something. That atmosphere, I'm telling you, there's nothing like it, and to be a part of that would be unbelievable. I played for Tito back in the Arizona Fall League on the same team as Michael Jordan. Unfortunately I got hurt, but Tito has been watching me a long time."
I wouldn't really be comfortable heading into the season with Josh Bard and Zaun as our No. 1 and 2 catchers to be honest. Bard isn't very good and Zaun is old. I'm still pushing to let George Kottaras and Dusty Brown fight it out. Perhaps Zaun or Bard could be the backup and whoever wins the battle between Kottaras and Brown could be the starter.

To be fair...
Is it really DUMB for Tex to take that money and run? Maybe not forward thinking or selfless…
My point is that he didn’t want to play for the Red Sox, bottom line. It just seems like there are a lot of players out there that would kill to be a Red Sox…
And they aren't pussy whipped.
I say give Zaun a minor league deal and invite him to ST. Is there a limit to how many people we can invite?

And Varitek?
Him staying with Boston next year is looking less and less likely, but who else even wants him? What is going on with Jason Varitek?
Isn't Zaun's first name spelled with 3 G's?
