2009 Relief Pitching
This post is in reply to a previous post on relief pitching. We are trying to determine the leverage index for the relief pitching. We know that the Papelbon will be the closer. We also know that we have alot of great relief pitching that could all be potential setup men. Tito will have his time to pick and choose when and where to use each pitcher.
We need your help to determine the how Tito will use the pitchers most effectively.

this poll is a bit premature and more appropriate at the end of spring training how can he even determine what he will get from Ramirez or Saito yet?

He'll use MDC less
It’s simple: He didn’t trust MDC when he had no options, why should he now with a loaded pen?

MDC logged a lot of innings and has pretty good lefty/righty splits
MDC led the Sox in appearances and IP out of the pen. Ramirez is a righty specialist, and Masterson struggled v. lefties last year. Saito is coming off an injury. Tito tends to spot Oki.
I agree with RedSoxMedford. This thread is premature.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

MDC wasn't used in big innings, mostly
He was a 6th inning guy most of the season, I thought that was the question.
The thread is premature indeed.

Sometimes the 6th or 7th inning is the crucial inning
That’s why saves are a stupid stat.

Yeah, sure
I meant unimportant innings, like blowouts or safe wins. MDC has more potential than that, but that was basically his role last season, as far as I can remember.

I suspect Saito, because of the large concerns around his health, rather than faith in his ability, which is considerable.

Hahaha... no.
MDC, because he can be dominant or suck horribly any time out. And he gives no warning as which he plans to do.

There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. Saito
because there’s a good chance Tito won’t even have the option of using him.
