Sean Casey hangs it up
According to WEEI.com,
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com has reported that Sean Casey has signed on with the MLB Network, making his retirement official.
Casey, 34, hit .322/.381/.392 in 218 plate appearances for the Red Sox in 2008.
Well, I enjoyed watching the Mayor hit, he was the ultimate "Professional Hitter", just single after double though no homers this year...But overall a successful idea of having him sub for Youk/Lowell in that type of situation, great in the clubhouse. Kind of encourages the idea of leaving Kotsay in the outfield and bring on Kevin Millar for a similar role. Man, he can hit with the Green Monster...
Interesting, but one of the Cinci media said today when asked about Casey's potential return, "Nah, he's retiring". Seemed like just a guess, but now it's official.

The question is
why do some players just know when it is time, but others have to learn the hard way when to hang it up?? This seems to apply especially to aged former Red Sox stars and their loyal followings!

Casey probably felt he couldn't contribute better than a replacement.
Tek was still worth a win last year.
For those children who claimed they’ve been a fan of their favorite team all their life, or even since they were about four or five years old: bullshit. There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. For me, Nomar Garciaparra was that reason. - Nick Coviello: I Try To See Rocco, But All I Think Is Nomar; 1/9/09

He knew
that no one would give him a chance to play. He probably could have been a good backup somewhere, or a pinch hitter in the NL. Why not start the new career early?

Because then NG might not get a chance to complain about him.
NG probably thought Brokaw was on the news too long.

Yay for learning!
It’d be nice if SB Nation made these things a bit more noticeable. Maybe include it in a email to new users with a test to see if they can use each button and feature properly.

Sean Casey looked powerful
He was a girl with the stick, but he was a class act and hit well with us.
Mother---- him and John Wayne!

Sean Casey had a well higher OBP than Jim Rice
I wonder if he’s getting to the hall as well.

Half his hits it seems
HE bangs off the monster, and gets thrown out “running” to second.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
