Fourth Outfielders
Here are some thoughts about other potential low cost fourth outfielders. Some of them are a little out there, let me know what you all think:
Rocco Baldelli: He'd be a perfect fit, although you guys have made some good points about his ability to play every day if an injury occurs.
Emil Brown: Just kidding. Or am I?
Jim Edmonds: The Old Man would be awesome to have, he was great for the Cubs down the stretch.
Juan Encarnacion: I'm pretty sure that he's alive, he's always been a championship kind of player when healthy.
Eric Hinske: I have no clue why not. After a 20 homer season though, he might be trying to hold out to be a starter somewhere.
Gabe Kapler: The Manager! Would fit in as if he never left.
Scott Podsednik: I don't really think he'd be worth it, but he would provide some more speed and defense off the bench.
So Taguchi: I'm not considering him, but did you know this guy is gonna be 40 next year?
Brad Wilkerson: And the cost is gonna be waaay low, a lot lower than when he was traded for Alfonso Soriano anyway. I think he'd be pretty valuable, just don't pay too much attention to his OPS from last year (.622).
Then there are a host of different trades we could make for a guy like Alfredo Amezaga or something like that. By the way, wouldn't it be great if we still had David Murphy? That trade never happened...

Andruw Jones or Adam Dunn anyone? I personally would love to bring Dunn on board, especially since JD or Mike Lowell are big ? for healthy.
"We're not going to give up," It doesn't happen, so who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."
Not with Dunn's defense.
Jones, maybe. Only if we don’t have to take on the majority of his contract, and if the number of players sent to LA was based on Jones’ performance.

Not Jones either
I’m a better hitter than Jones at this point.
Ideally
we’d get a RH batter who can play center. That eliminates most of the guys on the list. I know Drew can play center some, but I worry about pushing him anymore than we need to.
I like Rocco.
Manny ain't the only bad man.
Sorry
But now we are overstocked on rookie/not very good catchers, and Buch is untouchable.
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
...
Agreed on the catcher part but I wouldn’t say that Buch is “untouchable”, ….I think he has the POTENTIAL to untouchable, but we’ll see how it goes..
….like my dumbass HS basketball coach said “Potential is Nothing, Performance is Everything”
The FO seems to disagree.

Cat is a bad outfielder and could only play leftfield.
Your 2010 Texas Rangers starting shortstop....(see pic)
And Salty would be a bad option at catcher.
If we’re going to give up the biggest bargaining chip we have, we had better get something GOOD back.

Your really underselling Salty's potential but what ever.

I love Salty's offensive potential.
But Buch, if he goes, needs to go in a deal for a guy who, barring injury, WILL REMAIN AT THE CATCHER POSITION. I’m not sure Salty really fits that bill. We’ve got first baseman (Youks) and a potential future first baseman (Lars).
"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Dr. Pepper is a doctor?"
Yeah
I’m just thinking that Byrd would only make the price alot higher than it already would be to get Salty. I think that the Rangers are looking at getting alot more in return than just Buchholz, or at least that is this non-expert’s opinion.
They do shout "Good eye!" when a batter lays off a ball.

How about Juan Pierre?
The Dodgers are balls deep in outfielders, and back on December 29th, according to MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick; “They would like to move Andruw Jones or Juan Pierre if they sign an outfielder”… He’d be a great 4th outfielder, aside from the fact that he’s a left handed hitter. He hits for average, he’s solid defensively, and he’s fast as hell.
if the dodgers ate most of the money,
but he is scheduled to make $28.5 mil over the next three years. Waaaay too much for a very average player.
Wow
I hadn’t realized he signed such a big contract. I highly doubt the Dodgers would be interested in eating much of that. But he would be a pretty sexy bench option.

No, thank you.
Juan Pierre has been MLBs leading out-maker on more than one occasion.
"You know you're having a bad day when the fifth inning rolls around and they drag the warning track." - Mike Flanagan, Baltimore Orioles pitcher, 1992.
Although this really isn't an issue anymore...
He also creates a number of runs. While his OBP isn’t overwhelming (.346 career), he has eclipsed the 100 Run plateau 3 times in his 7 full seasons. Of the remaining 4, the lowest number of runs he had was 87.

I think that Juan Pierre
would be a great addition. Don’t know if it’s feasible, but I would love to see Beckett & Pierre back together…..
….still would much rather have Hanley….but who wouldn’t???
Hey
Beckett and Penny are back together. The Sox this offseason were rumored to get D-Train, Burnett, and Pavano, too. We could have had the entire 2003 World Champion Marlins rotation!

If what I'm reading is true:
Congrats on landing Rocco. I wish him the best as he was my favorite player for three years and one of the few bright spots through endlessly unexciting seasons. You’re getting a hell of a ballplayer and if you can use him right he could be a very valuable piece.
Would he possibly play RF for you guys against lefties to keep Drew and Rocco healthy? I know J. D. is death on righties and I’m sure with the bases loaded and D. Price on the mound you might rather have Rocco at the plate.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.
