Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Michael Young

Word on the street is that Young wants out of Texas.  The rangers have a vacancy at third base, and would want Young to shift positions to allow a young stud SS to play with the big club.  Young was not pleased by this request, as he has already made one position change for the Rangers (2B to SS).  Young is a great talent at SS, and would be an amazing addition to an already great team. An average year for Young looks like this:

.300/.346/.442, 14 HR, 82 RBI, 93 R, 34 2B.

He's hit very well at Fenway in a very small sample size of 7 games.  It would take more than a pretty penny to get him AND Teagarden/Salty from Texas, but man that would be sweet.

Where would he play?

Would we be moving Lowell in trade?

Nah

Lowrie will give us better defense and comparable offense for much less over the next six or so years.

To clarify:

I know he does play short, but the “nah” was more of a “no thanks.”

Young has . . .

a no trade clause and from what I’ve heard wasn’t to happy with certain fans words for his wife awhile back :)

We shall see . . .he would be a downgrade from lowrie on defense and he will be 37 and collecting 16 million . . . .I am torn . . . .I really feel the sox money not to mention prospects could be spent in a better fashion

Rec'd for the quasi-oxymoron.

And for making sense at the same time. +1

For those children who claimed they’ve been a fan of their favorite team all their life, or even since they were about four or five years old: bullshit. There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. For me, Nomar Garciaparra was that reason. - Nick Coviello: I Try To See Rocco, But All I Think Is Nomar; 1/9/09

What?

Would we OD if we gave up Lugo’s contract? Maybe…

GO SOX!!

Ya...

looking at his stats, he had something like 569 ABs. If the injury was significant, it must have happened at the very end of the season.

He broke his right thumb....

Wasn’t season ending, but it really impacted his hitting… played the last month and half with it….
