OTM Prospect Rankings: Who's No. 1?

It's that time of the year to update Over The Monster's top 20 prospects list. It tends to be a fan favorite during the offseason and that's what I'm hoping it will be again.

Every year we've done rankings it has always been a different system. Finally though, I think I've come to a fair conclusion: let the community hold the reigns. Here's how it will work: a popular vote by the community will rank prospects one through 20. We'll start with one and work our way down the list. With each position I'll include appropriate choices. If you have any beefs, make sure to let me know.

So let's get it started with the best prospect in the Red Sox system. It's really only a two-horse race, so let's meet the candidates:

LARS ANDERSON (More info)
21 y.o. / First Baseman / T: L, B: L
SoxProspects Rank: 1 / Baseball America: 1 / MinorLeagueBall.com: 1

LVL	AB	2B	HR	RBI	BA/OBP/SLG
A+ 306 19 13 50 .317/.408/.513
AA 133 13 5 30 .316/.436/.526

The best power prospect in the Red Sox system. Still young, but a lot of potential.

MICHAEL BOWDEN (More info)
22 y.o / Starting Pitcher / T: R, B: R
SP: 2 / BA: 2 / MLB: 2

LVL	IP	BB	SO	HR	ERA	WHIP
AA 104.1 24 101 5 2.33 0.92
AAA 40 5 29 5 3.38 1.13
MLB 5 1 3 0 3.60 1.60

Big righty with high ceiling. Three strong pitches.

Now it's time to vote! I'm not sure when I'll cut it off. Maybe when it hits 100? Maybe when I just say so? We'll see how many votes roll in and we'll go from there.

Very excited about Anderson.

He’ll make his big-league debut sometime in 2009 or 2010. Anderson and Bowden are definitely our 1 and 2, in that order.

I agree. Although I have a bad feeling Bowden will be traded.

He may be

Although, with the Sox stockpiling bullpen arms, Masterson may be the one who is moved.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

I'm afraid there aren't many dumb GMs out there

I doubt any would take a package built around Masterson for anything good. Just me, maybe.

If the results were this close for Bowden as #1.

He’s #2. no doubt. Is Buch no longer a prospect?

For those children who claimed they’ve been a fan of their favorite team all their life, or even since they were about four or five years old: bullshit. There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. For me, Nomar Garciaparra was that reason. - Nick Coviello: I Try To See Rocco, But All I Think Is Nomar; 1/9/09

You get to make those decisions because you still have the best avatar on the internet

AQHF is the best thing in the world since Married With Children or Duke Nukem 3D.

I’ll give you MWC, but HF and Duke? C’maaaaaahn.

ATHF (which somehow I wrote AQHF) and Duke Nukem both offer the meaning of life

I actually broke up with a girlfriend because of Duke Nukem, I had to go out and meet her and instead stayed home playing for like the 332893423 time. I turned down sex for the love of the game, I should get an award from the developers or something.

I once almost had that experience with Starcraft.

But decided that I could dominate later.

I was always more of a Command & Conquer guy

I played the very first one and Red Alert more than I can remember.

Oh man. might have to flag this.

Blizzard (Starcraft, Warcrafts 1-3) wins.

Starcraft reminds me somehow of a weird old game for MSX

Starship Rendezvous, in which you played as a robot looking for ladies in the starship. Once you found them, you needed to please them with some, uh, ‘tools’. It was a really a bizarre game, and words can’t describe it. I was never able to take Starcraft seriously.

It was hard to

what with all the cheesy quotes.

“Need a light?”

“Battle Cruiser, operational.”

Cheesy quotes?

A friend of mine had Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast a years ago, and he showed me some dialogue from that game. How something that completely moronic gets released is beyond me up until this day.

We still got to do every number, no matter how obvious a choice may be.
