ORTIZ VOTE UPDATE
Poles on the blog "ORTIZ TRADE: VOTE NOW" are now closed. Thanks for voting all.
The results are as follows:
21% voted to trade Ortiz.
78% voted to keep Papi on the team.
A blow-out victory for Ortiz fans, however it initially looked like the pro-Ortiz camp was going to muster up a perfect or near perfect 100% vote.
Last few days things seem to have evened up somewhat. So statistically, one-in-five Red Sox fans on OTM want to see the back of David Ortiz. Unfortunately none of you ever came forward to explain why you think he should be traded. Step up to the plate, common!

There is only one possible reason why the team would trade Ortiz.
The only reason would be if he was washed up due to aged-rerlated fragility, resultant injury, and slow healing!
Ortiz is a team player, an upligting presence for all, a great hitter when healthy, and a great hitter in the clutch probably even when NOT healthly. Unless his health is really permanently shot, why would you ever trade him???

For Chrissake, I agree that Ortiz shouldn't be traded
ALL I do want however, is to find out who the 20% of bloggers on this site are who apparently DO.

Well, that must be a secret, BUT
whomever they are, I feel their reasoning must be about as I have said above!

They probably aren't from this site....
My last sig was too long, so my new one is: He who hesitates is a mediocre ambidextrious stupid person who thinks the Rays suck and stole Joe Maddon's shoes while thinking he was at a baseball game but was at church.

Only reason to trade Papi:
If we get a great young pitcher, catcher, and shortstop. Any offers?
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

Ouch. Don't talk to me about great young pitchers.
A certain lad by the name of Clay comes to mind.

Some one with less risk than Buch.

I'd trade Papi for...
Albert Pujols
David Wright

I'd take both in one trade.
Along with the Cards’ prospect they are shopping and a good catching prospect from the Mets. Who would get Papi though?

That's A Good Point
In terms of Post Season performance they all seem to measure up:
D. Ortiz in the Post Season: .317AVG, .587SLG, .418OPB, 42RBI, 11HR
A. Pujols in the Post Season: .323AVG, .593SLG, .429OBP, 35RBI, 13HR
D. Wright in the Post Season: .216AVG, .378SLG, .310OBP, 6RBI, 1HR
Personally, however, I wouldn’t trade Ortiz for anything until at least the 2009 offseason. Give him another year to see whether he can get back to his ball-bashing old self. If not, I’d trade him for Pujols but not Wright.
Still, missing Ortiz during any Post Season would feel missing the soul and center of the new era Boston Red Sox team…trading Ortiz would be an emotionally tough affair under almost any circumstances.

How does Wright measure up?
He’s way worse based on those stats.

True, but he's played in fewer post season games than the other two
Only once has David Wright been to the playoffs, I believe, so that has to be taken into consideration when comparing him to the other two. Good point though.
