Then go back to HH

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

FYI, K-Rod

served honorably in the world series as well – as a 20 year old in 2002. You want to talk experience? At least be honorable in your comparisons – are you emulating the GOP over here!

Looking forward to the ALDS with you guys. Should be a good series, more even than in the past.

by jimmuscomp on Sep 21, 2008 9:51 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again, go back to HH if you don't like it.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Sep 21, 2008 4:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah...

I forgot that opposing viewpoints aren’t something that some folks are interested in hearing. Sorry for wasting your time.

When you are adult enough to listen to, understand and debate others’ views get back to me. I’ll be in the adult section of the WWW.

by jimmuscomp on Sep 21, 2008 7:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sorry, thought you were the same guy as above.

The political reference to the GOP is what got me angry. I’m a conservative Republican, unlike most Sox fans.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Sep 21, 2008 10:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not sure how the lines break down.

Schilling, for example, is an outspoken McCain supporter. I’d expect there to be many conservative Sox fans out there.

Jim, I, for one, am very interested in hearing opposing viewpoints. And you are very right about K-Rod’s experience. Like many campaign ads, mine simply chooses to blatantly ignore (or distort) the facts in characterizing the subject.

by 0157H7 on Sep 21, 2008 10:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Fair enough...

K-Rod is going to get grossly overpaid this winter, but he has still be stellar for a long time now – he’s been a stud for 7 years and is finishing his age 26 season. That’s crazy right there.

His 2nd worst season is still a record-breaking campaign too – so while I don’t think he should be MVP or even CY Young, he deserves to get some recognition…

See you guys soon.

by jimmuscomp on Sep 22, 2008 12:56 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You know what

He does. He’s a very fine closer, and if he stays without injuries, I’d like him in my bullpen too (not considering the money he’ll get here). The thing about him is that there’s at least 5 guys better than him in the AL. You put Nathan or Mo or something in K-Rod spot, and he’d save as many games, maybe even more. He wouldn’t have broken the record without how the Angels are built. But I guess you know this better than I do.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

by MerryGoByeBye on Sep 22, 2008 9:16 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Absolutely...

Top AL closers are:

Mo, Nathan, Papelbon then K-Rod. Also, Soria in KC is looking good, but I think (as many do) that there are a lot of 1 or 2 year closers out there. K-Rod and the others I listed above have been consistently good – so they get a boost because of that.

Any “elite” closer saves at least as many games as Frankie this year with the amount of 1 and 2 run leads he was given. No question.

by jimmuscomp on Sep 22, 2008 7:01 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   1 recs

That's the point

K-Rod is among the best, but I really don’t think he’s the best.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

by MerryGoByeBye on Sep 22, 2008 7:34 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I know.

But a large number of Sox fans (and Angels, come to think of it) are from areas that are known for liberal viewpoints.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Sep 22, 2008 4:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Do you mean

the civilized parts of the world? I love the GOP and the whole “liberal” viewpoint angle, as if civil rights, health care and a government who does not violate the Constitution by spying on its citizens are some how crazy left wing ideas…

A majority of the founding fathers would be considered liberal by today standards and they wrote the Constitution.

by SoxAcumen on Sep 22, 2008 7:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And...

I don’t worship any of the founding fathers or anything. They spread power around too much. I get the whole “checks and balances” thing, but that’s too many chances for an idiot to do something stupid and f up the whole system.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

And the "uncivilized" part of the US will be the part defending you if Obama wins.

Just to clarify

The Angels are located in Orange County.

Orange County = One of, if not THE, most conservative regions in CA, and up there in the U.S. as a whole (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_County,_CA#Politics). That said, there’s a fair mix among Halo fans, I think.

Anyway, just popping in for this. Ducking back out now—see you guys in a week or so!

No problem...

Glad it got cleared up.

The GOP comment could have as easily been the “Dems” – we’d have all understood the joke – I chose my piñata of choice – no disrespect.

See you on Oct. 1 or 2, me thinks…

How you guys diggin’ Jason Bay?

by jimmuscomp on Sep 22, 2008 12:52 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's better than Vlad

Okay, now I’m fucking around. :)

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

by MerryGoByeBye on Sep 22, 2008 9:16 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well...

the way Vlad was looking in July I’d have agreed with you. He has turned it on of late and brought his numbers us a bit, but I am very concerned that he is in the early stages of decline. With a guy that ignores the strike zone the way he does, if he loses the ability to hit abysmal pitches he could fall off a cliff. Any drop in bat speed and he is in trouble.

by jimmuscomp on Sep 22, 2008 7:03 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, Vlad never needed to really work on this

Because he has that swing, and he can hit many pitches most hitters can’t. He might be in for a decline late in his career, but he’s still a great hitter.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

bay is no manny, but you cant have enough guys like bay. Plays hard and brings alot to the plate. The only real problem with bay is against lefties hes almost a sure out. But still, hes an important part of this team.

While I agree that Funke above added very little to the discourse

Jim here is respectful and not tossing shit around to be blunt. No need to tell him to take a hike, IMHO.

Later all – looking forward to the ALDS…

Of course....

I’d vote Pedroia over K-Rod for MVP too – just to be clear.

Entertaning, 0157H7

Thanks for the morning laugh. You must have done something right, pissing off a left-wing Dem above, although I agree K-Rod has had a helluva year. People put up with theatrics……if you can win!

Still, I voted for Pedroia, too.

You made a good job of making it sound like a McCain/Obama ad.

PedROYa 4 MVP!

My last sig was too long, so my new one is: He who hesitates is a mediocre ambidextrious stupid person who thinks the Rays suck and stole Joe Maddon's shoes while thinking he was at a baseball game but was at church.

The greatest compliment from a sports fan is to be feared and hated. It shows respect.

As an Angel fan, I thank you, Frankie Rodriguez thanks you, and Mike Scioscia thanks you.

McCain

Why is this in the style of a McCain ad? That guys a jackass.

by Gnick on Sep 21, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again with the politics. Why is he a jackass? Did he steal your mom from your dad?

Sorry, the old line about stealing your girlfriend would lead to some creepy visualizations.

by 0157H7 on Sep 21, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

woah…is k-rod really in the running for mvp? Hes had a great year but a large amount of his draw comes from that hes on a great team that gave him many close opportunities. 60 saves with SIXTY SEVEN opportunities. His raw pitching numbers arent that amazing. Really id pick cliff lee for mvp before i picked k-rod.

by spinz on Sep 22, 2008 12:17 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

but of course...

id pick pedroia over both of them:P

K-Rod vs. Manny

The main difference is that K-Rod worships God (and, yes, is too theatrical about it) while Manny only worships himself (one of the points Schilling made the other day after he talked to Veritek and Wakefield. The latter two compared him, attitude-wise, to Carl Everett.

by ccthemovieman on Sep 22, 2008 11:26 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hey...

Is Rev Halo still not allowing anyone to criticize the Halos over on HH?

I mean what is more exciting than reading page after page of people telling Rev how awesome he is and how awesome the Angels are?

P.S. How many saves does K-Rod get in the AL-East? 45? 40?

by SoxAcumen on Sep 22, 2008 7:18 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

40 at most.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Sep 22, 2008 7:53 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rev is fine - he allows folks to criticize...

you just better bring something to the table besides opinions. You can criticize, but you’ll get called out if you’re blowing smoke.

PS. I still think Frankie gets 50+ saves in the AL East. This team was built to smash this record. Totally mediocre offense (1st half) and really good pitching. That kept a ton of games close – thus allowing for a lot of opportunities. There is no way the Halos are 10 games worse playing in the AL East. Shoot – we own the Yanks and were 8-1 against the Sox this year. I doubt that he’d get that many less opportunities…

by jimmuscomp on Sep 22, 2008 10:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rev may allow criticism

but he also responds mockingly and immaturely to people who raise arguments. I wonder sometimes if he’s trying to get a rise out of people and make it seem justified in banning him. When I go on HH I feel I have to choose my words very carefully to avoid getting banned. In contrast, a visitor from another site here really has to go out of his or her way to get banned by Randy or Allen, our mods.

HH has some great contributors, and I’ve enjoyed reading it many a time. I don’t like the attitude a lot of people there take towards the Red Sox (mortal enemy), which makes little sense considering the division difference. It’s an energetic, spirited site, but sometimes I feel like people get worked up too easily.
