So tonight would be a great night to end that streak. Go Sox!!!!

Tamp gave up 5 runs in the 9th yesterday

If the Sox win this one, and Tampa loses their game, I say it’s a pretty even race.

Mother---- him and John Wayne!

by MerryGoByeBye on Sep 19, 2008 7:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Except that Tampa owns the tie-breaker

The Sox have to finish ahead of the Rays to win the division. If they’re tied at the end of the year, the Sox get the Wild Card.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Ortiz said before the game

that it didn’t matter if we won the division or not. “If you’re in, you’re in,” he said, meaning the playoffs, of course.

by ccthemovieman on Sep 19, 2008 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True

But I’d rather the Sox not have to play both the Rays and Angels to get back to the WS. Winning the division ensures that won’t happen.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

I agree

I was kind of disappointed he said that.

I know

We’re actually 2,5 GBs with the tie-breaker, I think. I know it’s not very likely, but it could happen.

Maybe he was a fair pitcher, but not now!

If the last 2 out of 3 tiotal performance meltdowns do not tell you something at this critical time of year, then I do not know what will? The momentum sucking that comes from an easily hit pitcher is stunning. The Sox are still in shock, IMO, from that last Wakefield heinous performance!

A bigger problem than injuries?

Than the Manny drama?
Than the lack of clutch hitting?
Than the lack of run support he got in most of his starts?
Than Buchholz’s total meltdown?

The Red Sox have had their share of problems; Wakefield isn’t the biggest “root cause” by a long shot!

This Sox team is in trouble

But NOT because of Wakefield, who has 1 fewer QS than Jon Lester. This team is in trouble because they are beat up. Injuries to Papi, Lowell, and Drew have killed the offense. Losing Manny’s bat also hurts.

by Drugs Delaney on Sep 19, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The last two total meltdowns

in his last 3 outings cannot be blamed on anyone or anything but Wakefield’s lack of current prowess. I is too unpredictable and too easy to hit for the better teams. You know, the kinds who are in playoffs! I do not know how many total pre-third inning meltdowns you need to see before you come around, but I have already seen enough!

That's nice

But what would you like the Sox to do right now? It’s not as if Colon had a particularly outstanding start, either, and we don’t have time to convert Masterson to a reliever, and Buchholz isn’t really an option, either.

by lone1c on Sep 19, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bingo.

As a fan, I need to vent when this team is losing. I have truly become a fair weather fan unlike most of you die-hards around here. I feel compelled to express what I believe are the problem players, and I would hope that this season or next, the sox could replace these non-performers!

Again, I only watch the Sox when they are winners, and for sooo sooo soo many years I tuned out. I want them to keep winning now, but that seems less likely recently, so I vent about it.

However, this time, I strongly believe I am correct. This team is better than average, but only if they don’t get put in shcok by poor pitching, and only if they can keep the dead weight lack of hitting to a minimum. I do not like what I have been seeing lately. Do you?

For example, my title, translated into English from the Hyperborean, reads:

Way OT, but:
Tell him that Aurilia is welcome back on the team – hell, it would allow me to continue displaying his bobblehead with pride – but he needs to be used effectively. Aurilia needs to be used effectively, that is. Not the bobblehead. And not Bruce Bochy. Certainly not a Bruce Bochy bobblehead. A prototype Bruce Bochy bobblehead exists, but they can’t figure out how to make packaging that can escape the gravitational pull of the head.

It was a good hit.

And, unfortunately for Ells, a good catch, too.

The Sox are winning because

I’m playing Duke Nukem between innings. Really. When I don’t get to do that, the Sox lose. It’s working the last couple of weeks or so. :)

I haven’t played video games in a month and a half because of school. This weekend, NCAA 09, 24/2 (except for the four hours for the UF game – TUCK FENNESSEE!!!!)

I have both and PS2 and a GC

I’m not thinking about ever getting a PS3 or a XBOX 360. The only games I ever play are Duke Nukem and DOOM. :)

Let's see... not including handhelds, these are the systems I've owned, in order:

GC
XBOX
Wii (traded in GC)
PS2 (traded in XBOX)
PS3 (traded Wii with friend)

I bought all of them with my own money, btw. I’m not spoiled.

I sold my computer back then to get my PS2

GC was sort of a gift from my ex-girlfriend. There are a lot of good stuff there (I have over 200 PS2 games… Blackcats saved my life last year), and I don’t have much time these days to play anything, so I’ll stick with those 2.

Really aren't that many other exciting games to show.

The only other option, really, is TB versus Minnesota—and there’s a large fan base matchup for TBS to drool over.

Great Game Caught the Tail End On MLB GAMEDAY

Didn’t get to catch the game on TV, put I caught the last three innings or so on MLB GAMEDAY, which, I must say, is a pretty awesome program. They’ve updated it since the last time I used it and now it’s sleek, efficient, displays tones of information about the current game and others being played around the league, and all in 3D, too! Way to go MLB.com…

Down to business, glad Papelbon managed to hold on to the save, that was a purty nice looking K to finish it. Unfortunately the Rays stomped Minnesota 11-1, so I we’re still 2 games back…

Small Celebration: Red Sox Record 90th Win of 2008 Season

Just thought that’s worth a mention; even though the eyes of Red Sox Nation are glued to (another) AL East Division Title, (another) playoff appearance and of course, (another) World Series Title, let’s not forget we owe it to our team for a terrific performance again this season. 90 wins is always something to celebrate… especially if it comes one day before the Wankees are about to be eliminated from playoff contention.

Hoping for 100 Win Season Actually...

I want that 100 win season as bad as I wanted an AL East Division Title for the Red Sox last season…just one of those small triumphs that are seen all to rarely in Beantown, despite our recent success. But is reaching 100 still feasible this season?
