Great start with Papi's HR

but Wake’s knuckleball isn’t knuckling, and that’s bad news

Kotsay is a dead spot in the line-up lately

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

I stand behind my 50-50 seismic meltdown comments about Wakefield!

In a big game, he is just too unpredictable and easy to hit. At best, the sox will need to score 5 to win even if Wake has an acceptable game for him. This version of the Sox cannot be counted on to always score 5 runs especially against good pitchers. If a bad Wake shows up, it is over by the 4th!

by NG on Sep 17, 2008 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

Many times that's true

and I don’t why you take so much abuse here for stating the truth. It looks like it’s one of those bad nights for him.

"Bandwagon Nation go home?"

I find that sign hypocratic. Pot-kettle-black.

I said I wouldn’t come on yesterday, but I am bored. GO Sox!

My last sig was too long, so my new one is: He who hesitates is a mediocre ambidextrious stupid person who thinks the Rays suck and stole Joe Maddon's shoes while thinking he was at a baseball game but was at church.

Agreed.

That would pretty much empty out the stadium. Not a bad idea, so the hardcore fans could move down.

Wakefield getting rocked. Back to back jobs, 3 HRs allowed so far.

NG was right….

The knuckleball doesnt work as well in a dome because there is no wind.

Read my lips--Big games are different

Also, Wakefield is getting too old, like so many of the Sox, and he cannot cut it in big games on a predictable enough basis.

Why is he still in there?? Are we already conceding this one??

I did.

I actually witnessed his first loss at the Trop last year on Sept. 23.
He’s gettin old.

You got to cut Ells some slack because of his speed, even

when he slumps a bit. He can turn trash ground balls into hits, and once on base, he has about an 80% chance of using his speed to make good things happen that most cannot. I want to encourage him in every way possibly because I see him as the future. He needs to lead-off like today because of his speed traits.

BTW, THANK GOD FRANCONA FINALLY IS GETTING WAKEFIELD OUT OF THERE! Howev r, has he already waited too long in this important, almost critical to me, game!!

by BoSox415 on Sep 17, 2008 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

There is a difference between faith and

using personel that cannot do the job. It is the lack of faith in certain personnel that leads to my observations on momentum slipping away in important situations. Everyone can have a bad at bat or a bad game now and then, but there are certain personnel that just cannot consistently (if ever) deliver in important situations, and you know who they are!

by NG on Sep 17, 2008 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I know who you think they are, but I also think you overreact to slumps. For you to even suggest MIke Lowell and David Ortiz are something along the lines of “just about done” at the low points of their seasons leads me to believe you are not so much giving us your insight as much as you are venting.

by Charger567 on Sep 17, 2008 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

You may be partly right

in that I certainly do feel the need to vent when the Sox collapse for (to me) predictable reasons! However, age caused injuries and slower recovery times for these two that you mentioned tend to bolster my arguments more than yours, IMHO! BTW, I never said either of these was through, only that they may be getting near their useful end, especially Lowell.

partly because I am feeling just too negative now, and partly because I see no point in pushing these points any further for now. Hopefully the Sox can come-back, but they have to gather the lost momentum back now from the almost impossible hole Wakefield has dug for them!

Isn't history fun?

You know that whole terrorist attack thing that we were just commemorating? Those kinda things usually bring a lot more people to military areas in big cities. That census was from 2000, and those numbers don’t include people who are employed on the base but not in the military. A lot of people are here because their family moved and they stayed here after they retired.

Our Chicken Little:
I stand behind my 50-50 seismic meltdown comments about Wakefield!

In a big game, he is just too unpredictable and easy to hit. At best, the sox will need to score 5 to win even if Wake has an acceptable game for him. This version of the Sox cannot be counted on to always score 5 runs especially against good pitchers. If a bad Wake shows up, it is over by the 4th!

by bdalebs on Sep 17, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

also:
Read my lips—Big games are different

Also, Wakefield is getting too old, like so many of the Sox, and he cannot cut it in big games on a predictable enough basis.

Why is he still in there?? Are we already conceding this one??

National broadcasts like ESPN gamenight

are measures of where/what the national network folks think the important teams are at this crucial time of year. Guess who is on TV nationally tomorrow night—-Tampa Bay vs. Minn..

I feel certain that if the Sox had performed better the last 2 nights that the sox might be on nationally against Toronto. So the tide has ?? shifted, and if the Sox don’t get their managerial/player personnel collective asses in gear, the networks might well have it correct.

by NG on Sep 18, 2008 9:28 AM EDT reply actions

They might also get accused of being pro-Sox if they showed another Sox game...

Not that it would be a new concept…

Tampa-Minny would have been the ESPN game no matter what

Both of those teams have a shot at the post-season. Toronto is done. Thus, the Twins-Rays match-up is more interesting nationally.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
