Come the fuck on, Colon
We really need to take this one, because it’s Halladay tomorrow…
Mother---- him and John Wayne!
hi all
yeah lets win this one and we can be a bit more relaxed tomorrow
I'll take 5 good innings form Colon
Lester pitches tomorrow. he usually goes fairly deep in games.
More than Colon, though, the offense really has to start hitting.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Strike two (swinging)
Ells really has to learn to lay off that inside pitch.
Taco walks …
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
How good would the world be
If Clay was pitching as well as Litsch is?

Fair enough
But he doesn’t walk guys, and dudes don’t hit him all that well… I’d be okay with that production from Clay.

Nice hitting by Dusty
Opposite field double.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
2 on scoring position for Papi
Quite the change from the earlier game…
Mother---- him and John Wayne!
Not yet
Papi has to plate the runners for it to be different.

Litsch isn't sharp
The Sox have to knock him out early and not let him settle in.

Yeah, we need to score more runs also because we don't know what Colon will give us
And the Jays pen is awesome, so we should not let it get down to that…
Mother---- him and John Wayne!

I don't know
He looks like he may be a dead fastball hitter. Like Drew, he seems to have trouble with pitchers who change speeds. In fairness to Bay, he hasn’t faced a lot of the AL pitchers before.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
by Drugs Delaney on Sep 13, 2008 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I've noticed that too
It’s amazing how he’s similar to Drew in many ways. He seems to be slumping lately, and he’s not getting any lucky. When he gets a ball, he just miss one or someone run it down…
Mother---- him and John Wayne!
by MerryGoByeBye on Sep 13, 2008 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Thank God for the WP
Without it, we only would have scored on run (Kotsay’s fly out was deep enough).

cant Cora play third (or Youk)
at SS Lowrie is good enough, no need to confuse him anymore with other positions
I HATE when the pitcher gives a walk with the bases loaded
It somehow pisses me off more so than a GS…

Lowrie's error changed the whole inning

Ellsbury breaks the wrong way ...
and the ball falls in for an RBI single.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Fuck you, Wells
Now, let’s get some runs…
I can’t say I’m not pissed about how the Sox handled this 4 game series. The Jays worked around to have their best pitchers playing against us, while we send Byrd and Colon… If we sweep or at least take 3 here, we pretty much kill the Jays.
Mother---- him and John Wayne!
The Sox worked to have their best pitchers face the Rays
Unfortunately, Paps blew a save and Boston’s bats went to sleep.
As for this series, Byrd would have pitched anyway. It was his turn. Doubleheaders are tough. If not Colon, it would have been Pauley or Hansack.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
by Drugs Delaney on Sep 13, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions
But we could have sent Lester tonight
And Dice-K tomorrow. Short rest, I get, but at least we’d have a fair chance at taking 3…

Fair point
You’re right, I’m overreacting. It’s just that the Sox never seem to play well against the Jays, and they’re the biggest thread to us on the WC race.

Odds are
we’ll still make it, (the playoffs) but be ready to sweat it out. Halladay tomorrow, too. Twins may win two today. Nothing comes easy (except for the WS, if we make it!) for Red Sox fans in the regular season and playoffs.
Why do they torment us?
Again, kinda hard to sweat it out.

If Papi had been Papi
we wouldn’t be having this conversation. For now, I suggest we refer to him as David, until he busts the “Goliath” slump he’s in.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
Ellsbury has been awful in the second half
Everyone gets on Tek as an offensive black hole (rightly so). However, Tek has been better than Taco.
Tek: .729 OPS
Ellsbury: .619 OPS
Coming in tonight’s game, Kevin Cash had an OPS of .602 since the ASB. Cash has two walks today, so he can’t be much worse than Taco Boy.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
by Drugs Delaney on Sep 13, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Unfortunately, the DH doesn't move from position to position. It would be nice to give Tek a offensive break for a while.
If it was allowed, I would want Dice-K batting over Tek. He did pretty well last year. Actually, I’ll take almost any Sox pitcher over Tek (except the guy who strained his back swinging hard at a changeup.)

Maybe. Sometimes Cito puts a terrible hitter like Wilkerson or McDonald second for the first inning bunt possibilities.

Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
Yup
They all drank the Steinbrenner Kool Aid
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Huge win tonight--Huge
I was pretty sure if the Sox lost tonight that they would be out of the running. Just a feeling, but I am glad they battled back.
Talking of battling back and just to assure you that I have not had a stroke or something, I know a lot of you here use stats to justify what you want. However, deep down there is nothing like watching every game to tell you what is going on. In that spirit, I must reiterate that in clutch situations, we do not want Lugo, Varitek ,and yes, Crisp anywhere near the batter’s box. Luckily tonight Lugo and Varitek were not in the game, but Crisp was! It seems to me that Crisp hits when it does not mean much, but when it means a lot, it is as if he does not have enough strength to hit it out of the infield. I absolutely shudder whenever any of these 3 are at bat in any crucial situation. I do not feel this way about any other regular player. I especially think Ellsburg can deliver in the clutch as he did tonight, and Lowrie, well what more needs to be said except if Lugo every comes back and replaces Lowrie, I will seriously think about no longer watching Red Sox Baseball until he is gone!
I hear you
It WAS a huge win considering Minnesota swept the O’s and Yanks rallied to beat TB. (Who thought I’d ever root for NY?)
Re: Lugo, I’ve been saying that for three months. That was the only good break we got all season – Lugo going down with an injury – and staying down. Lowrie is a clutch RBI man – the exact opposite of Loser Lugo. Lord knows how far back we’d be if Lugo was still playing SS. The more Lowrie comes through, the less chances stubborn Tito would re-insert him in the lineup (one hopes).
NOW, if somehow we can find a way to beat Halladay and then go to down and win 2-of-3 from TB we’ll not only be back in the pennant race but sitting pretty regarding the playoffs (which are still anything but a lock).

I missed all the fun!!
I was out with a friend almost all day before finally convincing her to grab something to eat where we could catch the game… the waitress turned the TV to college footbal ( I think) as the Sox were coming up in the 8th & I FREAKED OUT on her —then she couldn’t figure out how to turn it back to NESN. By the time I got to my car the Sox had a 6-5 lead
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
