BOWDEN called up!!!
Starts 8/30 against White Sox and Mark Buehrle.
From MLB.com: Having a vacated roster spot after moving both Sean Casey and Josh Beckett to the disabled list on Friday, the Sox called up Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket during the course of their victory Friday over the White Sox. This will be Bowden's Major League debut, having gone 0-3 for the PawSox and 9-4 for Double-A Portland this season.

Sweet.
Give the kid a taste, maybe catch lightning in a bottle. I feel at least as good about him as I do David Pauley.
Though of course I’ve got plans for tomorrow afternoon, so I can’t watch it. Stupid plans.
Question – and I’m not going to jump down your throat – but who voted bad call?
Manny ain't the only bad man.

Not me, but I can see where bad call would come from.
Bowden is 21. He doesn’t even have what, 50 IP at the AAA level? There are a lot of ways to look at this as too early/deperate to CATCH lightning in a bottle.

Sure, it’s a little risky. But so is Pauley – it’s not like we’re bumping a proven vet to throw Bowden out there.

I can see how it'd be a bad call.
Too early / not enough AAA innings, etc. It could ruin his confidence. He’s so young, he might shoot his eye out.
However, I don’t think the risk is that great. Players can succeed after a large jump. Hanley Ramirez, for instance, skipped AAA entirely while playing for the Marlins. We all know how he turned out. And Bowden’s stint is just for a cup of coffee.
I trust Theo for the most part on player development. He doesn’t take extreme or unnecessary risks. He was willing to lift Buchholz during the no-hitter if he exceeded a pitch limit, and he shut him down for the playoffs, despite potential availability.

Considering the only other option is Pauley
I’d say good call. Let him get his feet wet, while putting the Sox in a decent position to win.

Word
We’re on a playoff race, Jesus, starting Pauley in such a situation is bad.

Agreed
Also, since Bowden is almost at his innings cap, this looks like a one-shot deal. Win or lose, I expect Bowden to be sent down.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Bowden will still likely throw 20-30 innings until the end of the season
So I while I expect him to be sent down, I don’t think the Sox will shut him for the rest of the year.

In other news…. A-rod up in the bottom of the 9th today, 2 on, 0 out, and he grounds into a double play. Yankees go on to lose 7-6 to the jays.

One GOOD thing
the Yankees lost today, as just reported by spinz – always a good day when that happens!

Even better
Baltimore is leading 5-3 in Tampa. Let’s hope that score holds.

Yeah, and that Minnesota loses
That’s the team we might have to worry most about.
I’m a bit nervous with a kid on the mound who is 0-3 at Pawtucket, and no experience in the Bigs.

Don't worry about Bowden
Win-Loss record means nothing at all. He’s pitched great in Pawtucket so far, even though his record doesn’t show it. I really have no idea how he’ll fare in the big leagues, but I’m as excited as anyone.

Give em a shot
Lets see what he is made of…being brought up in a playoff race will certainly test his skills and fortitude.
