well the difference being: clay gives up 2 runs in the pen and hes out of the game, right now hes got the opportunity to give up alot more than that…but yeah hes probably done for the year. I just wish we could see masterson starting again.

I'd assume Masterson is still on an innings limit

He’s been a great reliever and all indications are that he’ll stay a reliever for 2008, but we may have ourselves our own Joba situation at this point. We’ll see if and when management changes their mind in 2009.

and am thinking, “why am I not surprised?”

What kind of a total retard is Francona? Anyone who is that stupid to keep pitching a guy who gets bombed game-after-game and hasn’t won in over three months – and gets worse each outing – deserves to lose.

Who else to start? ANYBODY is better than Buchholz.

Sorry…..just had to vent. Making the same mistakes over and over is inexcusable. I’ve lost respect for Francona.

But Buch can’t pitch for us again this year. He simply can’t. I don’t give a fuck on who we’re bringing up until Wake is healthy, if it’s Colon or Hansack, or whatever. Kid is an automatic loss right now, and he’s still our top ‘prospect’. So we should protect him, or protect our balls.

When you have great off speed stuff, you’ll dominate in the minors, but that doesn’t mean you’ll do well in the majors unless you have a good FB. Or you have a good year, like Buch and Bannister last season, then guys will start hitting you, like Buch and Bannister this season.

It was a small sample size, although Zink really did pitch like the discount R.A. Dickey in that one.

In any case, Buchholz is headed for the sunny state of Maine for the next week and a half. He’s eaten up a lot of options via suckitude this year, no?

Yes, he has, sadly.

Hopefully we won’t have to keep shuttling him around. I’m almost 100% certain that losing Buchholz (to loss of options) would come back to haunt us.

Of the 9 Walks/HBP

5 have scored. This needs to stop. Damnit Pedroia.

Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.

Papi, Youk and Bay up

You know, it could happen. :)

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Don't we have a day off tomorrow?

Or it’s another one @ Baltimore?

Its games like these that make me feel real queasy about our playoff chances

by spinz on Aug 20, 2008 10:42 PM EDT reply actions

Well, when you give away games

by throwing the same pitcher who has proven to be an automatic loss each time out, it IS discouraging and makes you think “this isn’t going to be our year.”

True, but should there be managerial consequences??

Is Francona screwing up with these constant bad decisions. I see this as a very good team, but with a marginal manager who keeps playing several poor offensive veterans, and sticks with marginal pitchers too long both in how long he leaves them in the games and in giving them starts (mainly Buckholz) in the first place.. Could a more demanding manager have gotten more out of this team??
