He who hesitates is tagged out between first and second base.
f+ck
seriously, WTF is that. pitcher walks in a run, has thrown 30 pitches, bases are loaded and he swings at the first pitch, are you effing kidding me? If I was the manager I’d be f*cking livid. Actually I’m not the manager and I’m still f*cking livid.
Oh yeah, he just reminded me he was.
Good play.

If Jacoby was paying attention
He probably could have scored on that.
No need to though
Papi with a single off the wall in right.

its not as bad as it seems.
I’m the director and owner of the company. So as long as I appear to be productive to the staff, then all is good.
O's commentators saying Markakis would have gunned him down.
Ells can run faster than Nicky can throw.

This is why Buchholz should be in the minors
You can’t walk the number nine hitter. You can’t get 2 outs and then lose focus. You can’t have a 4-0 lead and let the team get right back in the game.
Practicing for the playoffs I guess...
We did this last year too remember.

I won't editorialize this, but...
Julio Lugo said he felt something pull in his left quad while sprinting in the outfield this afterrnoon and feels he might have suffered a setback from his comeback. Lugo said he was scheduled to start a rehab assignment on Monday in Triple-A, but said, “I shut it down today and I’ll see how it feels tomorrow. I felt I was getting really close and now this.”

You know
Julio Lugo could be our Carl Pavano, and we’d be happy he can’t play because Lowrie’s available.
Who is the Lowrie for the MFY?

Ball-girl gets in the way for automatic double

Ball girl should be ejected
That was ridiculous!
would she be the first girl ever ejcted from a baseball game?

Sexist comment? or typo?
Not the first girl, and I think I’ve seen a batboy ejected for something. Can’t remember what for…

Mora HBP
Silver lining? Buch didn’t go 3-0 and then hit him or walk him on 4 or more pitches.
Bye bye strike zone
Sincerely, Clay.
We need Wake back ASAP.
GOD DAMN IT
That was embarrassing as hell. Mora took third on the walk. Jesus Christ.
Clay
Another sweet start buddy. 2 and a third IP.
He better not turn into Homer Bailey YIKES!

Homer is looking better than Buch at this point...

Aardvark turns it into an O's lead
Coco completely laid out for that, actually going over the fence. Very nice try, very dangerous though. Jeteresque (in terms of stupidity).
i think im going to flip out if he starts again this season. Id rather see tavarez starting at this point.
I like Masterson in the pen
But I also like him starting. We could really use him with Beckett’s arm troubles, Wake’s DL stint, Buch’s utter suckage, and Colon’s injury.
clay
Really id rather see him in the pen with masterson starting, he couldnt buch-tcher games any worse from the pen than he is right now.
Dunno about that
Dare I mention the Rangers game? We’ve all seen what the pen can do to a 10 run lead. He really just needs to go down to Triple A and stay there for a while, get his head straight.
Or Trade him while he still has some value?
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

They didn't part with him for Santana
They’re not gonna trade him now when his value has taken a major hit. They’ll wait him out awhile.
well the difference being: clay gives up 2 runs in the pen and hes out of the game, right now hes got the opportunity to give up alot more than that…but yeah hes probably done for the year. I just wish we could see masterson starting again.
I'd assume Masterson is still on an innings limit
He’s been a great reliever and all indications are that he’ll stay a reliever for 2008, but we may have ourselves our own Joba situation at this point. We’ll see if and when management changes their mind in 2009.
Javy says
Let me put two on and see what happens. Oh, Mora hits a three run homer. So that’s what happens.
My god, Lopez....
WTF was that? Does he think this is coach pitch softball? My litlle sister could have smashed that!
Don't question my choice of teams, or I will have to go all troll on you.
Tavarez was valuable because he could throw multiple innings
On back to back days. We need him now.
Just got home, saw the score
and am thinking, “why am I not surprised?”
What kind of a total retard is Francona? Anyone who is that stupid to keep pitching a guy who gets bombed game-after-game and hasn’t won in over three months – and gets worse each outing – deserves to lose.
Who else to start? ANYBODY is better than Buchholz.
Sorry…..just had to vent. Making the same mistakes over and over is inexcusable. I’ve lost respect for Francona.
I doubt Tito wants to put Buchholz in
It’s the FO’s decision whether or not to demote him.
who is supposed to pitch?
Wakefield? Beckett? Dice-K and Lester pitched the past two days.
Yeah, I think Buchholz should go back to Pawtucket by now. But the Sox have been shorthanded all season.
p.s.
Francona HAD an effective, winning starter in Masterson and he stops using him. Like I said……the man is just plain stupid.
You don't think the manager
decides who to pitch and who to sit? Is he just Theo’s puppet?
by ccthemovieman on Aug 20, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Theo makes the decision
Sure, he consults with Tito, the staff, his minor league peeps, his assistant GM, etc. But Theo is The Decider.
Manny ain't the only bad man.

And Bay hits the homer.
OTM, you can’t do without me.

Bay has been raking lately
Youk + Bay > Manny

Damn Sarfate
is a goofy MF.
Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.
great
I have a 1 hour meeting and it all turns to sh*t. Time to send Buch down and let Masterson do the job again.
Hope I don't sound like an ass on this
But Buch can’t pitch for us again this year. He simply can’t. I don’t give a fuck on who we’re bringing up until Wake is healthy, if it’s Colon or Hansack, or whatever. Kid is an automatic loss right now, and he’s still our top ‘prospect’. So we should protect him, or protect our balls.

I got home just now
So if he was unlucky or shit like that, I’m sorry.

Yep
And even in the game he looked better, against the M’s, he gave up 4 runs or something like that. That was his best game with us since he was called up. 4 runs. Against the M’s.

hes going to be 2-9 with a 6.75 era. Its really time to end this show for this year. Its hard to believe last year he was 3-1 with a 1.59 era.
I believe in that
When you have great off speed stuff, you’ll dominate in the minors, but that doesn’t mean you’ll do well in the majors unless you have a good FB. Or you have a good year, like Buch and Bannister last season, then guys will start hitting you, like Buch and Bannister this season.

I’d like to see Hansack up again—I don’t know how he could be any worse than Buchholz at this point, and I’d assume with age and experience comes higher pitch count tolerance.
It was a small sample size, although Zink really did pitch like the discount R.A. Dickey in that one.
In any case, Buchholz is headed for the sunny state of Maine for the next week and a half. He’s eaten up a lot of options via suckitude this year, no?
Yes, he has, sadly.
Hopefully we won’t have to keep shuttling him around. I’m almost 100% certain that losing Buchholz (to loss of options) would come back to haunt us.
At the very least
MFR down, 5-4.

Youk doesn't care that it's a blowout
Keeps on trucking.
Well, when you give away games
by throwing the same pitcher who has proven to be an automatic loss each time out, it IS discouraging and makes you think “this isn’t going to be our year.”
by ccthemovieman on Aug 21, 2008 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions
True, but should there be managerial consequences??
Is Francona screwing up with these constant bad decisions. I see this as a very good team, but with a marginal manager who keeps playing several poor offensive veterans, and sticks with marginal pitchers too long both in how long he leaves them in the games and in giving them starts (mainly Buckholz) in the first place.. Could a more demanding manager have gotten more out of this team??
