Game over already. The offense will struggle to score one run off of Marcum.

Actually, he's had a bunch of those.

Our team record in his games is 12-10. Not very ace-like. Also, he’s gotten about 5.27 runs of support in each game.

by 0157H7 on Aug 17, 2008 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s still an ace. Daisuke’s shiny 14-2 record isn’t fooling anyone.

Lester

Lester is the ace of this staff

by Gnick on Aug 17, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions

nah, it's still Beckett

go compare their K-rates, BB-rates, etc.

Dice-K

isn’t routinely stinking the place up. Guess how many starts he’s had with 5 or more runs? Two: 6-21 and 7-28. How many for Beckett? 6 (counting today).

shocker: you WANT your pitchers to be inconsistent, given their ERA

you’ll actually win more games giving up 3, 3, 3, 3, and 8 runs than 4, 4, 4, 4, 4

Over/Under: Sox score 2 runs.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

But Beckett has also been an ace this season.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 1:57 PM EDT reply actions

This game doesn’t change that.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 1:58 PM EDT reply actions

and finally it’s over

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 1:59 PM EDT reply actions

wow, no one bobbled on that play? holy shit.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 1:59 PM EDT reply actions

i hate to sound bush league, but beckett really should of took something out of pedro’s playbook and threw one up near someones chin to get them hesitant in the box early.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

now here comes the sox offense, struggling against marcum.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

i wonder...

maybe he has some injury we dont know of.

by Tippecanoe on Aug 17, 2008 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

he looked good to leadoff. his velocity is there.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

now pedroia needs to hit a 2 run jack.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

nope, instead they’ll ground into double plays.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

this fucking bullshit.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

oh, eff this

we’re winning this. idc if its marcum. we’re gonna put up 8 runs now.

by Tippecanoe on Aug 17, 2008 2:05 PM EDT reply actions

they won’t. it wouldn’t matter if it was a #5 starter. they’d make him look like ace material.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

this dude marcum has been throwing balls left and right and they keep hacking at shitty pitches.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:06 PM EDT reply actions

Just think....

We get Byrd vs Halladay again on Friday! Woohoo!!

by Tippecanoe on Aug 17, 2008 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

i fucking hate any team that ends in AYS

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

this is bullshit. the jays are mediocre. their lineup sucks. it should be 1-2-3. 1-2-3. 1-2-3.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

instead it’s the sox that decide to dump a big turd.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:10 PM EDT reply actions

did someone tell them that it’s not halladay pitching today?

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:11 PM EDT reply actions

beckett just doesn’t have it today.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

10-3 yankees

bannister is an awesome pitcher

by Tippecanoe on Aug 17, 2008 2:13 PM EDT reply actions

why is it that the sox are the only team who can make a mediocre lineup look like an all star lineup? i don’t get that.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

yay

a scoreless half inning for becks

by Tippecanoe on Aug 17, 2008 2:15 PM EDT reply actions

unfortunately it’s too little, too late. the sox offense is going to make marcum look like cy young today.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

they may get a base hit, but the next batter will be determined to ground it into a double play on a shitty pitch that’s 20 inches outside.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:17 PM EDT reply actions

drew always has a good eye. leadoff walk.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

now turn these baserunners into runs.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

I FUCKING HATE WELLS YOU FUCKING PIECE OF DOG SHIT!

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

that’s it, i can’t watch this fucking turd of a game anymore. i’ll come back later on to check the score. have a good afternoon everyone.

by redoctober on Aug 17, 2008 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

Cora hits one to center that Wells catches

turns into the 2nd double play in 2 innings. This sucks. I’m surprised Cora’s flyball wasn’t a hit (maybe Wells was playing shallow).

by 0157H7 on Aug 17, 2008 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

Adam Lind crushes another HR.

Beckett’s fastball sucks today. It’s got good velocity but no movement and bad location. The Toronto batters are basically sitting fastball and crushing them.

by 0157H7 on Aug 17, 2008 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

I'm going to the movies

I’d like to see something blow up that isn’t Beckett.

by soxaholic on Aug 17, 2008 2:31 PM EDT reply actions

batman? hancock?

He who hesitates is tagged out between first and second base.

by BoSox415 on Aug 17, 2008 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh god

I just got in. How did the score get so ugly?

by aspeninthewindow on Aug 17, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Lowrie with the 11-run shot!

… in a perfect world. today is not a good day for the nation.

He who hesitates is tagged out between first and second base.

ill take an rbi triple, though.

Clay

Reading the Globe this morning, it appears Clay enjoyed pitching in relief.

“It felt like I didn’t have to go out there and try to set up any hitters,” Buchholz said. "I went up there and threw a lot of fastballs, mixed in some offspeed stuff.

“I thought the double that got hit off of me [by John McDonald], it was a fastball riding up and in, and he kept his hands inside the ball, got it up in the air, and hit off the Wall. I was really in a more comfortable phase than I have been.”

….

Buchholz called the inning a “confidence booster,” something needed for a pitcher who is 0-6 with an 8.19 ERA over his last eight starts.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing Clay come out of the bullpen once Wakefield comes back. He’s certainly got a live enough arm, and it might put him in a better frame of mind come next season.

Manny ain't the only bad man.
