Sox DL Lowell. Call up Pauley?
Consider me a bit confused. Sure, we used up a lot of RPs and innings last night, but Timlin, Paps, and Masterson should all be available for usual workloads tonight. Wouldn't mind having a corner IF option (Chris Carter or Jeff Bailey?) brought up instead. This could be just a one or two-day trip for Pauley until such a move happens, I suppose. Could also be possible that the Sox eventually bring up Josh Wilson and use Lowrie at 3B with Cora at SS and Wilson as the backup for the next couple weeks.

Lars at 1B, Youk at 3B?
Anybody but Cora.

Might want to hope for thirsty Thurston then.
Can’t imagine Lars being called up right now.

Just using the most popular idea that is probably going to be suggested again.

And who would move around?
Lowrie to 3B and Thurston at SS?

Lowrie stays at SS, Thurston at 3B.
If Thurston were a credible ML SS, he probably wouldn’t be languishing in AAA for us. Someone would’ve given him a shot as at least a ML-backup IF by now.

Hmm... IDK, seems like we would be losing offense
I don’t think he would help us win a 15+ run game

Lars ain't coming up
sorry to say. He’s looking real good in the minors, but he’s not gonna be ready for the majors until at least the middle of next year. He just got called up to AA about 2 weeks ago, there’s no way he’s going to the majors. The most probable situation is Casey at first, Youks at third.

Not much offense lost there (no sarcasm)
Casey is basically a lefty Lowell, maybe a little slower with less power

I'd say at this point Casey > Lowell
Though in fairness, Lowell has been playing hurt for a month now.

Pauley?!
Oh God, look for another ride tonight.
It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Ain't Pauley going to be used as a reliever?
Because otherwise, I can’t see the reason for the call.

Insurance policy with the pen decimated.
Kind of more understandable now that I’ve thought about it a little longer.

Okay, just making sure that you didn't think he was starting
Lester should go 6+ innings though, so hopefully we don’t have to worry too much

Bring up Carter
He has been great in Pawtucket and was great when he was up earlier in the year.
I am sure Pauley will be used just during this Texas series and then sent back down.

Random silly stat of the day
Career averages:
Lowrie: .286/.346/.437
Lugo: .271/.335/.391
First of all, fuck sample size. This mean, while Lowrie may not keep this production, we all at least know Lugo would never give us that in the first place. :)

I wish we could call someone up
but I think the best choice for us is to just put Sean “Slow-Mo” Casey at 1st, and Youk at third. Lars isn’t ready, and we don’t want Cora in the lineup. How long is Lowell out?
He who hesitates is tagged out between first and second base.

At least 15 days; he played last night, so no retroactiveness, I think

Agreed
He is a decent Lefty reliever and has been pitching decent.
What about Chris Smith?? He was good while he was up.

Smith was rocked in his last outing at AAA
But I agree that Jones should get the call, at least for us to see what he can do at ML level.

Jones
Could definitely help our bullpen right now. I’m hoping Hunter Jones gets a chance. He’s a weird pitcher as he’s a lefty, yet he pitches better against righties than lefties. I think he could really help the team though.

Considering his age and raw tools...
I think Daniel Bard should be put on the 40-man roster and called up

Right now Bard
is a one pitch pitcher (though that one pitch is pretty nasty) with some control problems. He has looked dominant recently in AA, but that’s no reason for him to get promoted. He’ll probably see some time next year, but right now we’ve gotta be patient with him and let him work out the kinks until he is ready for the majors.
