Sox get Byrd

Via Extra Bases:

Here's a release on the trade from the Indians:

CLEVELAND, OH—The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has completed a trade with the Boston Red Sox, sending RHP PAUL BYRD to Boston in exchange for a player to be named or cash. The player to be named must be agreed upon on or before January 15, 2009.

Byrd made 22 starts with the Indians this year going 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA (131.0IP, 146H, 70R/66ER, 24BB, 56K, 23HR).

The Indians will not make a move today to replace Byrd on their active 25-man roster. The club’s 40-man roster now stands at 39. The Indians are now undecided for the start on Thursday, August 14 vs. Baltimore.

What do you guys think?

correct me if im wrong...

isnt byrd the guy during the ALCs who got accused of juicing, and then byrd accused the redsox of releasing that information from the mitchell report before his game 7 start?

yes

yeah same guy.

Ive got no idea about this trade. People on Baseball tonight keep saying this was a steal, but is Paul Byrd really gonna help us?

Every part of my body hurts when I'm saying this

But he’s better for us than Clay right now.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

im having trouble seeing this as a good idea. The sox damaged byrd’s reputation…did they forget this? The real question is, did byrd? I cant help but think this was another case of the sox blocking another team, but this time they decided the price was low enough that they went through with it.

and from byrd in the mlb.com article ””I wasn’t a Red Sox fan this offseason, let’s put it that way,” Byrd said. “For me to now put on that jersey may take a minute.”“

His language was very reserved in describing how he felt about this move. Really theo what were you guys thinking on this one????

Byrd

comes off as a professional, I do not think this will have any effect on his pitching. Plus I doubt he blames the players in the clubhouse. Byrd’s situation during the playoffs was a counter to the BS the Indians pulled trying to get into Beckett’s head.

Seriously, they found his Ex who is a pretty crappy country singer and gave her the dream shot her career has been looking for just to get Beckett to not kick their ass again.

Byrd will be a professional.

Byrd while not a really good option

is better then some of the efforts they have been getting from the young guys so it was a decent move. If they give up even a very low minor league prospect for him then that is a joke but for cash it was a decent move.

Byrd took flight tonight

7.1 Innings and 4 runs allowed. I will take that anytime from our number 5 pitcher.

Except he's the 4th starter

at least for the moment, with Wakefield out. Buchholz is #5 at the moment.

Good Point

but I still expect these kind of numbers for most games. He will eat up alot of innings and give the bullpen a rest for the next game when Buchholz pitches for 5 innings.

Last year

he averaged a little under 6.1 innings per start.
