44, eh?

I know it’s old hat to buy and sell jersey numbers, and I know Curt was only asking for money for his charity, but I thought it was a little douche-baggy for Curt to publicly say Bay could have his number if he made a contribution, almost like a challenge.

I mean, come on, Curt, we all know you’re not gonna wear the number again.

Manny ain't the only bad man.

Agreed

Sometimes I think people are unfair to Curt, but he indeed talks crap from time to time.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

I agree, it was a tactless way of offering a guy your number.

But, when your making 6 mil for the year like Bay is, it seems like it wouldn’t be a big deal to spend some money to get a number you want. (If said number is important to you.) While helping out a good cause at the same time.

by ruktuim on Aug 1, 2008 6:46 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Regarding the lineup tonight,

Anyone have any idea at the reasoning behind Lowell batting clear up as opposed to Bay?

In July, Bay is batting .277 with 6 Hrs compared to Lowell’s .215 and 1 HR.

Looking farther into it, for the season Lowell is hitting .317 with runners in scoring position, compared to .216 from Bay.

by ruktuim on Aug 1, 2008 6:58 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm sure it's about not giving even more pressure to Bay

And, really, I’m sure Francona didn’t think much about the line-up, which I guess it’s right, because he doesn’t know how this team will do without Manny.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Lowell has struggled recently.

He shouldn’t be hitting higher than 6th.

Really good point,

Is Thomas a first ballot HOFer?

I’m mixed. Yes, he was the best hitter around in the mid-90s, but I feel like he’s piled on the counting stats over the last 6-7 years.

Thomas is a sure HOFer

He only had one season with an OPS+ lower than 100, and it was 94. The other years it was not even close. He is something else.

move Youkilis there. Lowell is really struggling. Last 12 games he is .180 / .241 / .200. In July he’s .215 / .286 / .290. I too think he’ll break out of it, but probably not tonight.

Damn, nice catch by Bay!

Question: what would have Manny done with that ball?
A) Rolled on it.
B) Kicked it in the air like a hacky sack.
C) Slid head first on his back with a blindfold over his eyes.

by Randy Booth on Aug 1, 2008 8:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

In all honesty, it looked like Bay wasn’t near the ball when he slide. Maybe the wind pushed it a little bit, but I was worried it was going to fall a little further than his outstretched glove. Great play. That’s an OTM Web Gem!

Is the guy incapable of taking pitches, with the aim of getting one to drive or drawing a walk? First pitch swinging isn’t helping him bust this slump.

LOS ANGELES—Decked out in a No. 99 Dodgers jersey, and LA cap and a pair of sunglasses, Manny Ramirez was introduced at Dodger Stadium this afternoon, answering questions for just over 10 minutes and sending a message to Red Sox fans.

“I want to say from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the fans of Boston,” Ramirez said. “I love you guys. You’ve been with me through ups and downs.”

In front of a very large media contingency, Ramirez was also peppered with questions about his controversial departure from the Red Sox. He didn’t bite.

“Boston is in the past,” Ramirez said. “When people ask about Boston I put my brain on pause.”
