Jason Bay makes his debut as a Boston Red Sox tonight. He will be playing left field, batting fifth and will wear No. 44. Mike Lowell is batting clean-up, with David Ortiz in his usual spot.

Regarding the lineup tonight,
Anyone have any idea at the reasoning behind Lowell batting clear up as opposed to Bay?
In July, Bay is batting .277 with 6 Hrs compared to Lowell’s .215 and 1 HR.
Looking farther into it, for the season Lowell is hitting .317 with runners in scoring position, compared to .216 from Bay.
I'm sure it's about not giving even more pressure to Bay
And, really, I’m sure Francona didn’t think much about the line-up, which I guess it’s right, because he doesn’t know how this team will do without Manny.
