Goodbye to the Last of the "Idiots"
As Manny leaves Bean Town, an era comes to an end in Red Sox Nation. Dan Shaughnessy wrote this morning in the Globe that our last proponent of the "Cowboy Up" and "Idiot" Red Sox has just left for LA, and we can now usher in a new era of a new kind of team.
Remember the days of Kevin Millar's pre-game whiskey shots and his "Cowboy Up" slogan? How about Johnny Damon as leader of the "Idiots"? Along with Pedro Martinez, slayer of Don Zimmer, Bronson "Corn Rows" Arroyo, and several others, Manny is the last member of those lovable goof-balls to go. Yes, it was time for Manny to leave, and I have come to terms with that. And now I look forward to the future success of this new looking Sox team.
I am very excited with how our team is looking for the next few years. I see a wonderful balance of veterans (great leadership from the Captain Varitek, along with Wakefield, Lowell, Drew, and Casey), a handful of players just about reaching their prime (Beckett, Youks, Papelbon, and now Jason Bay), and a slew of young studs (Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester, and Masterson). And of course Big Papi brings so much to the team in both his bat and his clubhouse presence.
Here's what I see in this team. A lot of intensity and focus. I feel that is that is exactly what we need right now. While the gang of "Idiots" provided a bunch of great team spirit and fun, the Sox are headed into a new direction which will hopefully bring several more championships to Boston.
That's not to say we've become boring or un-spirited. The bullpen band is a hoot, Papelbon's victorious river dance will go down in memories, and a solid team chemistry still exists with great clubhouse presences of Ortiz, Varitek, and Casey.
So I just wanted to say goodbye to Manny and the "Idiots". It was great while it lasted, but the need for change was apparent, and we can now look forward to this "new" team bringing great success to the Red Sox Nation.

WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYIN ABOUT BEANTOWN…
“WHY THE SPORTS WORLD HATES BOSTON”

OK, um. That’s from Maxim Magazine, first of all. Maxim. We all know what Maxim is good for…
Secondly, the sports world hates Boston because: “The Red Sox are world champs, the Patriots are (almost) perfect, the Celtics are dominating the NBA, and all their insufferable fans won’t let any of us forget it.”—Wow, it really sucks being a Boston fan. I’d much rather be losing and have everyone love us than us kicking ass and making people jealous.

People aren’t saying that. Yankee fans are. The guy who wrote that is a pissed off Yankee fan.

Pffffffffft
the sports world hates Boston? Uh ok, was that a scientific poll? No one called me? Are certain “Boston fans” ( whatever that means) excluded from the poll. I root for the Sox so do I automatically have to root for the Pats & the C’s…
I live in MA & people call me a “masshole” all the time – no biggie but this guy is a loser lips. He is trying to be funny but it’s …NOT. I will say some “Boston fans” have alwasy been a$$holes but that isnt specific to “Boston fans”.
I am restless—want this game to start!!! I should be studying for my crim pro final but cant get off this board!!!!
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

Okay
Take a look at this page for a minute. The very first post on this thread is from “riverdalein,” and it has a link to some stupid article written by a MFY fan. You see at the bottom of his post, it says
by riverdalein on Aug 1, 2008 4:06 PM EDT reply actions
If you want to reply to something he says, you press the “reply” button right under his comment. It’s right there in between the time and the word “actions.” Then a little screen pops up and you get to say what you want to say to him.
Two posts up from me is a post from me is a post by Randy, our gracious co-host. You seemed to have replied to him when (I assume) you meant to reply to that first guy. As a result, you’ve insulted the wrong guy.
It’s not that big of deal, as most people can figure out you weren’t really talking to Randy. But just throwing insults without any context is the blogging equivalent of tourettes.
I apologize if this is a long post. I know you’ve professed your distaste for reading more than one thought at a time. I’m just trying to help.

LOL
randy didnt say anything about every1 hating boston, lol, and im pretty sure randy knows that as well, i dont know why people stress over the littlest things that dont matter. I was writing in regards to why every1 doesent hate boston which is the answer to the thread nepats posted while you go around every1’s thread with britsofsox and complain about the dumbest things, how old are you guys?. This is a red sox blog, if you want you can create your own room, invite brits and label it Complainers. All i said is how every1 loves Boston and get a complain about it?? wow, are you truly a red sox fan?

So caring about blog etiquette equates not being a Sox fan?
Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life.
Go Sox.

Nobody is stressing.. It’s just annoying that everyone has to work so hard to understand what you’re saying.

Can We outlaw "LOL"
It makes everyone sound like a 12 year old moron, which they may be, but responsible parties ought to be helping them become literate 12 year old morons. Just thinking (venting?) outloud here…
Oh yeah, baseball…
I miss Millar the most – I feel like everything that changed with the Red Sox started with him and his great attitude towards playing here. He understood that the fundamental problem with Boston was that we were so focused on not losing we couldn’t win. There’s irony for you there…but Millar just called bullshit on that went out to have fun with the game.
You can take the boy outta Boston, but you can't take the Boston outta the boy.

Agreed
Millar was a fun guy but I also heard that he had an attitude problem. I could be totally wrong though. He was alot of fun though and I do miss that joking mentality in the clubhouse.
Also agreed on the LOL part. It is like we are going in the backwards direction of proper communication. Pretty soon we will be just drawing pictures on a wall like the cavemen.

Dave Roberts and Drooling
Yah, I think Millar being gone is not bad from a baseball standpoint, it’s just that in a larger metaphysical way (Did I just write metaphysical on a baseball blog?!...anyway) the attitude that Millar brought (“Why not us?”) was a turning point like Dave Roberts stealing 2nd.
“drawing pictures on a wall” – good one. Seriously, it like we have this amazing communication device that could change the world and 2/3 of the users are drooling on the keyboard. * sigh *
You can take the boy outta Boston, but you can't take the Boston outta the boy.

I could care less
what the rest of the sports world thinks….SCOREBOARD!
I am sure when the Yankees were winning WS after WS that they cared what other people thought.
LOL sure they cared.
This type of success comes infrequently, live it up, enjoy it…do not waste your time on the haters who would give their first born child up to be in a similar position.
