Throw strikes, Lester

I DARE YOU.

The second one should have been a strike 'em out-throw 'em out DP

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Lester

If he doesn’t go at least 7, we will need at least a 9 run lead to win this game…that’s how little faith I have in getting through the 6th and 7th innings with our current crop of relievers.

I mean, even if he K’s at 3 pitches he might end up seeing more pitches than if he swings at anything.

Hey traiter damon

glad you’re not blocking the path of our 24 year old, $400K a year superstar in the making centrefielder. Oh BTW, we won the title again last year you sh*t.
Sorry, but I hate Damon, and there’s my rant for the day.

by sydneysox on Jul 3, 2008 8:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this start has really restored my faith in lester. Even more so than the no-hitter in a way, because this is against a really patient powerful offense.

by MerryGoByeBye on Jul 3, 2008 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

his numbers have been good enough, but id say in the majority of his starts its been frustrating to watch him trying to hit the strike zone.

by spinz on Jul 3, 2008 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nothing is more frustrating than Dice-K

All that talent, and he still walking 6/9 innings.

by sydneysox on Jul 3, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do not agree

His walks are way down from last year. I’ve said it before: I’ve enjoyed watching him most out of all our starters.

by soxaholic on Jul 3, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

Last season: 63 IP, 31 BB
This season: 108 IP, 39 BB

His K’s are also down, but that’s a big difference in walks.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

but still, lesters wins this year have been against kansas, baltimore, oakland, philly and tampa(not a bad thing anymore). This is his first reaally good quality start against a very established offense this year.

by spinz on Jul 3, 2008 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

His last start in Houston was poor, and you have to go back nearly 8 starts, back on May 9th to find another dud start. He’s been really solid.

by sydneysox on Jul 3, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

A-rod

You know I don’t really like this bloke, but geez when you peruse his stats, they are just ridiculous. BTW, are NY every going to realise he’s the better fielding SS?

by sydneysox on Jul 3, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

But its silly really

Anyone who knows even just a shread about baseball knows A-rod would still be the better SS. Its amazing no-one in their FO, just said “look this is dumb, we’ve got the best player on the planet playing the wrong spot, lets fix that”

Is that we’re overworking him. Dude’s pitching a huge amount of inning. We should give him a break in the second half, maybe let Colon or something like that start for him a day or two.

clutch start

Great job by Lester. Only 105 pitches, so we shouldn’t worry too much about it being a CG.

By way of comparison, Dice-K needed 101 pitches to get through 5 innings last night. Dice-K is a good starter, but he really needs to work on keeping his pitch count down.
