Tension abounds in Boston over the Manny situation, but he's in the lineup today and by all accounts in good spirits. The Sox lineup:

1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
2. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Jed Lowrie, SS
8. Coco Crisp, CF
9. Kevin Cash, C

Tim Wakefield, SP

Lowell just made a nice grab to get Wake out of the first after Jeter doubled.

Papi with his first RBI

Since coming back! Youk had walked prior, and he just went to third. Still no one out!

From McCarver on FOX

Theo: If Manny would waive his no trade clause, the Red Sox would be interested in listening to other teams about acquiring his services.

Friggin Fox

When Fox has games, the MLB cable package does not carry them. Now this would not be so bad if Fox carried its games nationally like ESPN does, but NO, Fox has to put games on regionally. Therefore, I am stuck with the friggin Phillies and no way to see the Sox game. I feel withdrawal pains coming!

I don't care if you have to throw him a fastball

You can’t walk Molina and let him come around to score.

Anyone else got the feeling that if we lose this series

The FO may hit the panic button? Not saying that they should, but that last Manny bs was too effed up.

I only hope that if we trade for any bat, than it better be Teixeira. He’s the only available guy that could replace Manny.

Do they announcers have anything else to talk about besides Dustin’s height, Varitek’s ability to handle the pitching staff, and Manny being Manny?

How does this sound for a line up?

Dustin Pedroia
Kevin Youkilis
JD Drew
Manny Ramirez
David Ortiz
Mike Lowell
Coco Crisp
Jed Lowrie
Jacoby Ellsbury

My bad, I messed up. Tek instead of Coco.

by Charger567 on Jul 26, 2008 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The thing with that line-up is that

Tito would never bat Papi lower than 4th. Heck, I don’t think Papi would even hit 4th. I’d let Drew lead off, then bat Dusty second. Pretty much like the line-up was before Papi got back, but Drew on the top spot, not Ells.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

by MerryGoByeBye on Jul 26, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My logic is that Drew kind of relies on getting “his pitch” more than Papi does. With no one to protect him, Drew would get pitched around to get to Coco or Varitek. Papi on the other hand can do more with worse pitches.

by Charger567 on Jul 26, 2008 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Papi also hits better when protected on the line-up

But I get your point. I also agree that Drew should bat higher in the order. Too bad that both he and Papi are lefties, because otherwise they could bat back-to-back.

I expect Tito to fix the line-up. Drew showed that he can do quite some damage when batting before a good hitter.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

This was the third time

Joba’s thrown at Youkilis, whether it’s been on purpose or not. Fourth if you count the two times it occurred in the same AB last year. Not only is it dangerous for Youk’s health, but the Sox and their fans have an emotional and financial investment in his well-being. Tell me that you wouldn’t want some retaliation if Guerrero was nearly hit in the head on three separate occasions.

by soxaholic on Jul 26, 2008 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I never see retaliation as being correct

And Youkilis crowds the plate, always has. Joba’s still a dick, but nobody is dumb enough to throw a beanball on a 2-0 count in the seventh inning of a one run game.

Guerrero gets hit all the time, usually in the hands. It pisses me off too, but the only correct retaliation is putting runs on the board. If you really want to get fundamentally correct, then the only way to retaliate is to hit the pitcher.

Remember Tony C.??

These pitchers today throw 100 miles and hour, and at that speed (and much less), a ball to the head could kill. If such a pitch was thrown intentionally, it is assault with a deadly weapon, and if it kills, it is murder. Now maybe if the criminal authorities in the jurisdiction were to get involved in some of these cases, maybe that would finally stop this crap!

Yep

There’s just no reason to walk Molina. Put one right up the middle, and he won’t do shit about it.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Damon just injured himself

FO was right to let him go. He’s just a walking trip to the DL now.

I'm still shocked Damon and Abreu were

not on the Mitchell Report

We need a bullpen

Even Paps hasn’t been as dominant this year. He’s been very, very good, but not the Paps of last year or ‘06. And then aside from him, there’s no one who doesn’t walk a batter or two every appearance.

I mean

Lowrie is getting on base well, he’s starting to look like a better hitter than Lugo, and has displayed some good range out there.
