Nats attempted to steal from Red Sox

Lowrie a National? Thank god, no.

OK, OK. The headline is purposely misleading. But get this, via SBNation's FakeTeams.com:

The Sox inquired about reliever Jon Rauch before he was traded by Washington to Arizona, but the Nationals were asking for top prospects Michael Bowden and Jed Lowrie.

-Boston Globe

That is called highway robbery, folks. At its best, too. Obviously we're not going to give up Bowden or Lowrie for a guy that just "pretty good" for the Nationals. I would trade them Wily Mo Pena though ... oh, wait.

Lowrie, Lugo, and Francona

Watching Lowrie in the field and at bat, I notice a smooth, confident young player. It would be the height of stupidity, IMO, to put Lowrie down and bring back Lugo. Don’t let it be done!!

As for the bottom of the hitting line-up, I find Lowrie a big plus, but Crisp and Varitek are still high on the momentum sucking scale. They need to be dealth with!

Finally, Francona seems to be risking wins by sticking with tired starters almost too long. Paps has bailed him out twice in Seatlle, but why did he wait so long to take out tired starters with 100+ pitches?? Didn’t the last manager lose his job with the Sox for such behavior??

You know

If Lowrie keeps getting on base and display some range at SS (which he’s yet to do), I really think he won’t lose his job to Lugo. I like Julio, and I know some of the Sox players love him. But Lowrie could be an upgrade, that is, if keep getting on base and show some range. Then it will be his job, I think.

Oh, and about the ‘last manager’, do you mean Grady Little? He didn’t lose his job because he liked to get an extra inning of the starter because the pen is sh

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Oops

Sorry, I pushed ‘post’ button too early. I’ll start the last part of my post again:

Oh, and about the ‘last manager’, do you mean Grady Little? He didn’t lose his job because he liked to get an extra inning of the starter because the pen is shaky. He lost the job because he was a dumbass.

Yep

Grady Little was a dumbass.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

LOL

Lowrie and Bowden for Rauch is fucking funny. These NL teams are on crack. I heard that the Rockies asked for Buch for Fuentes.

Now that’s ridiculous.

What's next?

“Nats sting Sox!”
“Sox swat Nats!”

Sadly, this story doesn’t surprise me. The Sox have a great farm system, and the jewels of it are major-league ready players (Masterson, Buchholz, Lowrie) . We have more to offer, and GMs are remiss in asking for less. The same thing happened two years ago when Abreu was available – the Phillies wanted more from us than they accepted from the Yankees.

the red sox strength often handcuffs them

having such a strong system will work against the red sox in trade discussions

by this i mean having a stockpile of such talented prospects will mean clubs are going to ask for top tier prospects for mid-tier mlb talent. a few years ago before zach greinke had his mental meltdown the royals asked for hanley ramirez in a proposed trade for him. clearly greinke isnt worth HR but because the red sox had him clubs were going to ask for him.

it’s a catch 22.

Rockies trying to Steal too

Apparently the thin air in Colorado made the Rockies think they could get Bucholz for Fuentes straight up.
