A Sox win would be nice

Tampa and the MFY are winning.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Evening All

Go Sox!

pfffffft good for MFY & Tampa—the Sox have them where they want them…I think

Good evening

The Sox play more home games than the Rays or MFY. So, in a sense, they do have them where they want them.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

The MFY seem to be home every series. I was surprised to see they head to Boston this week

Something remarkable has happened

with Jon Lester. I used to dread his starts. Now he’s arguably our best starter. Beckett’s been bad of late, and every Matsuzaka start is an adventure (lasting 5 innings with 6+ walks, at least two bases loaded jams, and typically two or fewer runs).

by 0157H7 on Jul 21, 2008 10:25 PM EDT reply actions

Said it once, I'll say it again

Lester’s my favorite Sox starter right now.

by soxaholic on Jul 21, 2008 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Beckett's problem this year has been HR

He has allowed 15 so far this year, compared to 17 all of last year. Otherwise, his numbers are very similar:

BAA – .248 (‘08) .245 (‘07)
K/9 – 8.48 (‘08) 8.70 (‘07)
P/PA – 3.78 (‘08) 3.78 (‘07)
#P/IP – 15.6 (‘08) 15.5 (‘07)

That said, I do look forward to watching Lester. Sometimes you have to take your lumps and let young pitchers develop. I’ve also been very impressed with Wake so far. Aside from Buchholz so far, the starters really haven’t been a problem. While I think Buchholz will be a special pitcher, it probably won’t be this year.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

From Sons of Sam Horn

“I have more raw pop from the right side and am more consistent from the left. I’m natural from the right, but of course get more left-handed at-bats. Right now I’m trying as hard as I can to be consistently the same each way. If your swing is the same from each side, you can think the same way up at the plate—you can always be making the same adjustments. The hardest thing about being a switch hitter is keeping both perfect. It takes a lot of swings to get your stroke where you want it to be, and a switch-hitter has to take twice as many to do that.” – Jed Lowrie, 7/25/05

Yeah

The bad thing about Ells is that he doesn’t have a lot of power, not only for homers but for 2Bs as well. Thank god that when he’s on, he can steal bases at will.

Lester strands Betancourt.

On NESN they showed Ichiro’s #s with RISP, and they seemed bad – .212 avg. But his OBP is actually really good in those situations, .393. No slugging to speak of with RISP (.242).

Mariners ball

This M’s line-up is so bad that they need a new name for the style of play. It’s not quite small ball, it’s a little worse. M’s ball is all about not getting the first dude on base, then the second one hit a single just to give the fans some hope, and the third one hits into a DP.

He is throwing harder this year

His stuff is better. His fastball used to always be up in the zone. Now, he changes the hitter’s eye level. His cutter is much better, and he spots his curve well.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Tek

he looked at 2 pretty good ones for strikes. He seems to be looking at a lot of strikes and getting behind in the count frequently

by 1redsoxfan1963 on Jul 21, 2008 11:44 PM EDT reply actions

Strikes two and three were frickin nasty.

Besides, Tek has always sucked 1) with two strikes, and 2) with the bases loaded. Combine the two, and there’s basically no hope.
