Manny Being Manny in Boston?

Will the Manny Ramirez stay another year in Boston? He'll be making $20 million if he stays one more year. He's 36 years old has about 270 hr's in Sox uniform 509 in career, how could they let a player with such talent go? Who would replace him? All i know is that he plays very well when it matters most and that's the playoffs. On top of it's just fun to be around him he brings alot of good chemistry to the team.  240217_medium
It would be such a shame to not see Manny finish his career in Boston.

Holliday

If they don’t pick up his option they could replace him with Matt Holliday.

holliday

hes a great player but he cant replace manny, manny is 1 of a kind. If manny leaves boston they better sign holliday

Holliday's a Coors Field hitter

He put’s up about half the numbers away from Coors throughout his career.

Home: .364 Avg 81 HR’s 292 RBI 210 K’s .428 OBP .663 SLG
Away: .277 Avg 39 HR’s 161 RBI 251 K’s .341 OBP .449 SLG

Granted, they aren’t bad numbers, but they’re nothing to write home about.

Good chemistry???

Since when are fighting in the dugout and pushing around senior citizens, acts that bring good chemistry to the clubhouse? How about complaining about the way you’re being treated by the team?

I’d take Matt Holliday in an instant.

Chemistry

I don’t know what was going on with the pushing of the old employee. If anyone does, please shed some more light on that situation. As far as the fight with Youk, I respect Manny for that. Everyone on the team was getting sick of Youk throwing his bat in anger after every out. (Even on ones when they were winning the game) Manny was the only one that told him. It wasn’t until after the “tiff” between the two that the rest of the team acknowledged they didn’t like what Youk was doing.

Are you and Manny hater in on something together?

Do you also want to accuse Tek of pumping roids into his system?

manny

fighting in the dugout was a 1 time thing, manny is a clown in the dugout and he loosens the team up, w/o manny it would be a boring dugout. Manny being manny moments

Entertaining in the dugout...

that’s worth $20 million a year? I guess he should get a raise, because he’s been spending alot of time entertaining the rest of the dugout in the late innings, since he’s become more of a defensive liability.

by 4thturn on Jul 22, 2008 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

20 million for entertaining??

are you crazy, you must not be a red sox fan cause you dont realize or remember what manny has done for our team, w/o manny we wouldnt have 2 world series last 4 years. How wouldnt you appreciate what manny has done in boston, he’s one of the best hitters baseball has seen.

by BostonNation on Jul 24, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right...

the Sox wouldn’t have won without Schilling either, but you’re not going to see him next year just because he’s had good years in the past. Manny’s best years are behind him. His legs are gone, he can’t play the outfield and he’s probably on his way to being a DH for some other team.

by 4thturn on Jul 24, 2008 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it's not like manny is declining

manny isnt slowing down, he’s still hitting very well, we still have almost half a year remaining, he could easily go for 30, 35 hr’s, that’s still very good for a 36 year old, he doesent even look 36 he looks like hes 30. I believe Manny has alot left in him, we can only wait and see if his hearts still there. We need manny especially at yankee stadium he has over 100 rbis over 30 hrs just at yankee stadium in a red sox uniform, he’s been a yankee killer since he joined the red sox, and plays the best when it matters most, the playoffs, the stats do all the talking

by BostonNation on Jul 24, 2008 10:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

manny

on top of it if we dont sign manny you know the yankees will gladly pay him, thats the last thing i want to see is another red sox great playing for the yankees and bombing on us. I want to see manny finish his career in boston, it would be sad to see him leave, he a red sox icon forever.

schilling

schilling doesent play every game like manny does and manny has been in Boston much much longer than schilling.

by BostonNation on Jul 24, 2008 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Manny Stats

He has 20 grandslams in his career(7 with red sox), second all time just behind Lou Gherig who has 23. 509 homeruns, over 2300 hits, closing in on 500 doubles, over 1600 rbi’s, .312 batting avg., .409 obp, over 2000 career games, over 7400 AB’s, his stats are incredible and he’s still nasty.

Manny being Manny

Dont take this the wrong way because I have enjoyed and love Manny and what he has brought to the Sox, but it may be time to look to build LF for the future.

Options:
1) Resign Manny and play Moss out there to a few games to be the next LF or 2) Sign Holliday who’s numbers have been increasing every year.

I would look toward Holliday who will only be 29 next year. Afterall, I am just a salesman, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn…no pun intended!

by Bama Sox on Jul 21, 2008 11:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

holliday is ok, but manny is better

holliday is a national league player, and the NL sux, i dont know if he would be that good in AL playing for red sox, you know that manny has put up the numbers every1 expected every year and you know he still will, so go with manny why wouldnt you. You wouldnt want manny signing with the yankees, because you know the yankees will pay him and then we’ll have to see manny bomb on us. Manny is a yankee killer especially at yankee stadium, we need that.

Signing Manny

Manny has always put up the numbers. He is as much of a sure thing as you can get. Yeah 20 million is alot, but we can afford it. Who are we going to be able to sign that will be able to replace him?

by drabidea on Jul 25, 2008 10:28 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He's out of the lineup tonight.

I’m as tolerant of him as the next poster. But come on…

Oh Manny, you came and you took without giving. Etc.

Manny

he came and took without giving?? are you a red sox fan or is this the first year your watching manny?? manny not giving?? Just look at his stats and stop posting ridiculous comments. There is no1 that can replace Manny, even Hollliday cant, because we know what numbers Manny will put up but we dont know how Holliday will in AL.

by BostonNation on Jul 28, 2008 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Manny Being Manny!!

Manny does this every year, except this year he didnt say he wants to be traded, he said he will approve a trade if the red sox can get a good one. Last year Manny said he wants to be traded then he said he wants to stay in boston and finish his career in boston. This is what manny does every year and it is classic manny being manny, hes gonna be a red sox for 1 more year if not 2 more years, this isnt anything new

Stop being so foolish

and taking comments out of context.

One, it was the lyrics to a song reworked for glib, throw-away effect. Yes, let’s forensically examine every post on this website for inconsistencies. That’ll be a fun game to while away the hours.

Two, my comment was posted moments after Manny apparently tanked it against NYY by telling Francona he couldn’t play – after the lineups had been sent to the media. Generally I don’t buy into the Manny feeding frenzy, but if it looks like a duck…

Three, it’s inane to suggest that Manny can’t be replaced. (Remember Nomar?) There are other big bats around—and there are bats that aren’t quite as good but which come attached to far, far superior defensive ability.

Four, if you’re Manny, don’t you want to be somewhere else where you can get a guaranteed two/three/four-year deal? It’s not in his best long-term financial interests for Boston to pick up the $20 million option for next season.

Five, I’ve already wasted too much time on you. It’s clear you’re making this personal because I gave you short shrift after you posted that offensive nonsense about AIDS.

ok

bla bla bla bla bla, you must not be a red sox fan if you dont want manny in boston or appreciate what he had done.

p.s. no1 has time to read your long comments, are you writing a book?

by BostonNation on Jul 29, 2008 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

nomar??

britsofsox says it’s inane to suggest that Manny can’t be replaced. (Remember Nomar?) , nomar??? to manny?? nomar was nobody compared to manny, ahhhhhhhhhh, click…. im officially done talking to you brits, i dont even think i was commenting to you before, i guess you just like to butt in, goodbye

by BostonNation on Jul 29, 2008 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

manny

no1 is gonna give up a big bat for manny, we’ll get prospects or something close to it. Better off letting manny finish the year if we want to have a chance to make the playoffs, and who knows manny could have an explosive end of the year to help us get into the playoffs and further then we can take it from there. If manny has a great end of the year run then why not sign him again, it’s not like we dont have the money, he’s been a big part of boston’s success why get rid of him now??

This is the most fun I've ever had at Over the Monster.

Well, since the days of Kevin Jarvis and Jason Johnson holding down our rotation.

yes

veece, atleast you have some common sense, how can some of these people that want manny out of boston or say we can get a better player than manny call themselves red sox fans?? that really boggles my mind

by BostonNation on Jul 29, 2008 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Manny is not going to last forever

He’s 36, and we need to start thinking about the future. Who will be our cleanup hitter after 5 years when Manny calls it quits?

He who hesitates is tagged out between first and second base.

by BoSox415 on Jul 30, 2008 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

manny

keep him to the end, when manny leaves we have alot of prospects we can trade and we have money to spend on the free agency list as well. Right now we cant afford to lose manny.

by BostonNation on Jul 30, 2008 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lowrie and cora

red sox should trade jed lowrie and alex cora and pick up a miguel tejada, add some more bat with youkilis, manny, and papi
