Please, anyone have common sense
Hey guys and gals, I used to root for the Sox but my final straw was the BS Manny got away with. I have no respect for the management or ownership. The can lose every game as far as I am concerned. Makes no difference is my life(shouldn't in yours either).
My main question is...Am I the only guy who knows that Veriteck was on juice? Take a good look at him and his plummeting average. Fits the profile like a glove..Take your blinders off and look!!!!! And don't give me the "tired catcher BS".
That "C" on his chest is for cheater.

Varitek is a limited hitter without the juice. Wake up!!!!!!! Take a look at his size…He is the prototype cheater. Stops juicing and gets “smaller” and numbers go down, duh

well, since you're pesky
...and don’t seem to want to shut up and go away…
Tek has never had a very good season. Ever. Like Randy pointed out int he post below (taht you so conveniently ignored), he’s only ever hit 25 HR’s in a season.
Now, let’s take a look at Tek’s PECOTA comparisons from the smart folks at baseball prospectus…His top Comparisons
- Todd Pratt (OPS: .864 at age 36, .718 age 37)
- Jorge Posada (absolutely a fluke compared to all historical data)
- Lance parrish (OPS: .789 at age 34, .673 at age 35)
- Jamie Quirk (OPS: .766 at age 35, .617 at age 36)
need i continue? catcher’s production drops significantly with age, it’s a fact.
Also, look at tek’s injury history. Never has he made a “speedy recovery” off the DL (even in ‘00-01 when steroids probably could have turned his career around), or experienced any of the hamstring/quad-type injuries that are most common among steroids users.
So…. your post is completely unfounded except that you apparently enjoy men with big legs. Great.

i'll revise that...
tek has never had a very good POWER season… he peaked in ‘03 when he slugged a very respectable .513, but only had 25 HR’s to show for it. If someone was on steroids and hitting that well, but only managed to get 25 balls over the fence… they’d need to fire their supplier, because that sucks.

McCormick said it was no big deal, asked people to drop the issue. Manny apologized (and I imagine paid quite the fine). No teammates spoke out and said “This is ridiculous.” Everyone got over it. That, to me, equates to “not a huge deal.” I think forgiving manny in this case is the absolute right thing to do.

What exactly was the “BS” that Manny “got away with”?
And I don’t understand how Varitek fits the stereotype of a steroid user. Career highs: 25 HR, 85 RBI … that’s AVERAGE over the last five seasons.
I think you’re just trying to get a rise out of Red Sox fans. Seems like that has been the case a lot around here as of late…

Explain
Please explain this profile that Varitek fits like a glove. All I have heard from you explaining your point is that he had big legs. No SH*T he has big legs he is a catcher. Of course his numbers have gone down he is a 36 year old catcher. There was another catcher who had a bad year when we was 36, Carlton Fisk. Are you saying he is a roid user too?
by drabidea on Jul 14, 2008 1:23 PM EDT 0 recs
Explain
OK, lets see if you can follow. Varitek has HUGE legs and hits well just like many of our more famous cheaters. All of a sudden his HUGE legs are not so big,,,matter of fact HE is smaller. His numbers go down…Gee, sound familiar. Forget the he is 36 years old crap, sure that has it’s effect but if you don’t think he used PED’s you are foolish.

Are you saying people with Big Legs are on Steroids? My grandmother has HUGE legs does that mean she is on the juice? The pictures I see of Varitek this year look like his legs are as big as ever.
http://cbs2chicago.com/national/lester.no.hitter.2.727981.html
They still look pretty big. Do you have any measurements? Do you have an inside source with the Red Sox pants providers? Maybe you just like checking out Jason’s legs all day.
I guess I am still wondering why you think Tek is on roids other then having big legs and his numbers going down this year. It seems like both those points aren't steroid determinates and the first one doesn't even seem to be true. Next suggestion.

It’s been a while since I commented, but I found this one too funny.
First, we can all agree if Tek was on the roid, of all things HRs would be the thing that increased the most right? Whether it be that he would hit 15 and instead hit 25 one year like you mention. Well guess what, over his career he averages about 16 HR a year, and look at that, with 7 HRs this point in the season he is pretty much on pace to hit right aound that career average.
Or how about your claim that he is supposedly noticably smaller, when in 2003 he weighed in at the beginning of the season at 210 lbs, and this year he weighed in at 230 lb. But no, you’re right, your observations of watching games on TV clearly is more accurate then actual scales.
But I guess this is all moot because I used stats to prove my argument, making me a geek and thus my arguments are invalid. I guess I should try to figure out a way to form an argument that ridicules any substantial facts that might disprove my argument and rely solely on baseless accusations and bias observations that supposedly only I would be allowed to make, because others observations are clearly wrong because they would conflict with mine

Oh, and as for the Manny issue, have you ever been on a team past HS (considering you so readily accuse everyone else here of nerd fan who’s never actually played any sport)? The lockerroom is full of pushing, and housing around and shooving (whether it is playful or because you are momentarily pissed off at a teammate), I assume the push Manny gave was not malicious with intent to hurt, and more of a push like Alaine gave Jerry when she said “Get Out!” (as in, yes he did push him. Considering both of them said it was no big deal at all and that the media was making way too much of it, I assume it a brief frustration that considering his entire PROFESSION is in a locker room setting, giving a friendly push was his natural reaction.) If you truely believe that any push is malicious and hate fill, then clearly you’ve never played on a sports team where friendly banter and physical contact is harmless and common place.
Now if he heard that he then got up and took a swing at Manny (like Hillenbrand), that would a whole other story, because then we would now that the push was malicious
by Realistic on Jul 14, 2008 5:55 PM EDT 0 recs
Realistic? Not appropriate name...
friendly pushing??? Are you OK? He pushed the old guy down and told him to do his f’ing job. Yep, sounds like he was fooling around. You are a disgrace. You and the fools on this board keep making excuses for him and the sox. LOSERS!!!!
As for Varitek numbers…it’s not all about homers. This guy is a shitty hitter(just look at his swings) and without the “help” he would be a 230 career hitter. I never brought the “you guys didn’t play ball” crap into this argument so i propose you don’t either. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you with comparisons.

Why do you think that Roids affect your ability to make contact with the ball?
That is affected by how much concentration you put into batting. I would like you to concentrate while having to work with 2 Japanese speaking pitchers, a large number of pitchers with small amounts of big league experience, and worrying about getting a good contract.
You have no right to accuse anybody of illegal activities without solid proof, and if Varitek ever heard of what you are accusing him of doing, you could be spending lots of money on court fees soon, Manny hater. You are lucky that Varitek probably doesn’t have time to read every negative blog about himself or you could be sued for slander.
Don’t be hating on Manny either, he does what he does to keep everybody’s stress level down. Maybe you haven’t noticed that since the Youkilis-Manny drama in early June, their hasn’t been a lot of fighting in the clubhouse. The thing where Manny pushed the guy to the ground could have been the culmination of a bad day, some bad news he just received, or other high stress situations.
Unless you are there and you know what is going on in the clubhouse, SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE, YANKEE FAN!

I used the term friendly push as in he wasn’t trying to start a fight, he was frustrated and gave a push just like anyone would push a friend that they were pissed off at, this is what I meant by friendly push. The fact that everyone involved or actually there have all said it was not a big deal and that everyone is making way too much of it, and the fact that neither hold any ill-will or grudge towards each other shows that it was nothing. If the person was actually pushed down has forgiven Manny and holds no ill-will towards him, isn’t a little childish for someone like you who has no idea what actually happened (like none of us that weren’t actually there) to still hold ill will? Also, you try to paint a picture of a fuming Manny foaming at the mouth attacking Jack, like for instance, Manny never said “f’ing”, you decided to add that in to make Manny seem more aggresive. The fact that other saw it happen and not a sing one person said “Manny was out of line”, I can only assume that it was a heated argument between two people where one might of pushed the other (for which he apologized for by the way) but never actually got out of hand.
2nd, if you really knew about steriods, you would know it is highly improbable for a user to improve BA and not improve how many went out of the part. That would mean that LESS of the balls put into play went yard, which is an odd thing to happen if said person had more muscles and greater strength. Apparently anything that might disprove your argument isn’t an important factor, such as how you didn’t even address the fact that he is literally heavier right now then in the past by 20 lbs.
As for the "you guys didn’t play ball", you accused some posters here of being “sport nerds” and said “Just keep looking at the stats books you geek and talk numbers”, which I assumed meant you thought of us a little nerds in our basements who never actually played the game (which in it itself I find funny cuz professionals for the most part look at stats religiously).

The Tale of Manny Hater and the Three Boston Brothers.
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away, there was a moss-strewn bridge. The bridge was really quite nice and charming, except for the stains of blood and piles of guts upon it. For a troll lived under that bridge, accosting every innocent traveler who attempted to cross it. The troll had arms like mighty tree trunks and brains like shriveled acorns, and his name was Manny Hater.
One day, as the last rays of darkness faded into the horizon, and the troll rose from his pile of bleached bones to check NYYfans.com, a figure appeared in the distance. The troll’s eyesight was not very good, since he spent his non-accosting time insulting people on online forums, but he saw a doubloon with a crimson B on the head of the traveler.
“Could it be?” thought the troll. “Could one of the fabled Boston brothers be approaching? Never before have I tasted such succulent excellence.”
As the figure came into view, Manny Hater recognized him. It was none other than Brother Pedroia, the tiniest of the brothers. As the troll looked over the young man, Pedroia flexed his stick-figure arms and shouted “Hey Troll, what do you think of these guns?”
The troll stared at Pedroia’s arms, at his grinning face, then at his arms again, and Manny Hater’s brain (which was, after all, easily taxed by such boldfaced bravado) froze. After several minutes of further abuse, Pedroia darted past him, merrily shouting “97 coming in, 197 going out.”
After several hours in the warm embrace of ignorance, the troll’s frail mind recovered. He vowed to himself to eat the next personage to appear before him. It was midday by now, and the cascading noon sunlight illuminated a crimson B in the distance. Manny Hater readied his roundest, heaviest stone, with which to bash in the brains of the coming Boston Brother.
Manny Hater watched in amazement as the brother approached him. With a carefree smile and a mountain of dreadlocks, Manny Ramirez approached, wooden bat in hand. “Hark and halt, fell villain, for I mean to eat ye,” called the troll. “Don’t worry, be happy” rejoined the placid Ramirez.
With all his tremendous strength, the mighty troll hurled the boulder at Ramirez. One cacophonous clash and tremulous second later, Ramirez stood there unharmed, admiring the arc of the great stone as it sailed through the air over the river. The slugger casually dropped his bat, and calmly walked in a circle around the troll, reaching out to high-five him along the way. Such a majestic expression of the beauty of baseball was this that the troll, who of course never actually watched the sport, was dumbfounded, and he did not notice as Ramirez ducked under the bridge to make a phone call.
Psychologically the troll was in a lost place, having been twice bested by two hated foes. Drifting in and out of consciousness, his mind wended its way to its core, its foundation. He beheld the mighty heroes that had inspired him in his solemn quest to guard the bridge: Jeter, the humble; Giambi, the graceful; A-Rod, the faithful. Recalling their sacrosanct majesty, he regained awareness.
The intervening hours had brought gloom, as afternoon melted into dusk, and dusk sauteed into evening. Vast, dark clouds had swallowed up the once cerulean sky, and sheets of rain fell like poorly-installed skyscraper glass. Lightning cut its swatch across the troubled heavens, while thunder rumbled across the bridge, shaking its foundations. Through this chaos, Manny Hater saw the outline of something vast, a mighty specter making its way through the storm, inexorably approaching him and his bridge.
Gathering his stoutest weapons, and mustering his courage, the troll made ready to face this new invader. In several strides, it was upon him – a towering form. Manny Hater looked up, up at rock hard sinews, up at muscles practically overflowing out of the skin, up to two mighty boulders. At the very limit of his vision, he perceived a flash of red. Just then, a bolt of lightning flashed by, illuminating in unmistakeable clarity, a crimson B. The troll raised his weapons and shouted the foulest of curses, railing against the mighty third brother, who bore the weight of the entire Boston team on his cargo container-sized legs. Yet Varitek the Colossus did not heed this torrent by his toes.
Manny Hater looked up in horror as a towering foot rose up, and his life flashed before his eyes as the foot came down (it was quite boring). Varitek ignored the trollmarks on his engorged feet, and continued on to Fenway Park, where he called a no-hitter.
And everyone lived happily ever after. The End.
