OT: Sox @ Tigers, Game Dos. 5/6/08, 7:05 EDT
Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers, May 6, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
V.
And the lineups, brought to you as always by deargodcococrispisnotaleadoffhitter:
- For those into that sort of thing (me included), the Celts tip-off against the Cavs @ 8 EDT.
- Via Extra Bases, Alex Cora and Sean Casey will begin rehab assignments later this week. (Cora starts tomorrow, Casey on Thursday) If both are ready by Saturday, expect Craig Hansen and Jed Lowrie to head back to Pawtucket.
- The Rockies need a starter, and Julian Tavarez is on their list of options. We'll see.

First!
Wake with the 9 pitch start to Granderson. Is it possible for a Sox starter to throw 75 pitches in one inning?
1-2-4 inning
Not bad …
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

no complaints
Yesterday’s game was brutal to watch. 10 walks. But hey if we are only giving up 3 runs a game, I suppose I can’t complain.

NO
Lugo’s signature double play hit is a grounder to second or short. He is too fast for hitting into a triple play, but this is not to give him any positive feedback. He is a master at chocking in the clutch by either sriking out usually by a called third strike, or even more likely to hit into a double play. I fear he will cripple this team someday when it most counts, and nobody in Sox management seems to be willing to do anything about him.

not bad
That’s a decent way to start. I’ll be very happy if our middle relief doesn’t need to used today. Its just been painful to watch lately.
5-pitch 2nd for Wake
Let’s knock Robertson out now …

other than Verlander
Detroit is really struggling on the hill. Their team ERA is just shocking. I heard they actually have a higher payroll then we do also, is that right?
I reckon they’ve gone the wrong way around in building this team. They are like the Yankees now, score 900+ runs but can’t win it all as they don’t have enough quality arms to get it done when its really needed.
Verlander hasn't been too good so far

coco
moving the runners around. Well at least its something productive. He’s making outs, but at least were gettting something in return. Geez do I sound like Joe Morgan?
Not sure if the sac was the "call" or not, or if it was a botched attempt at a bunt single...
But I don’t like it in that situation. The trail runner (Cash) STILL needs a 2B to score from 2b.
"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"

runners left on 2nd and 3rd again. That’s tough. In reality that’s quite easily 4 runs wasted.

Rockies want Tavarez
While they’re at it, won’t they take Lugo?
Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
maybe
they’ll take every middle reliever we have and Lugo and we will be kind enough to take that young, struggling ss they currently have.
That would be great
Can’t we send someone out to tell their GM something like “Tulo sucks anyway; Why would you want him?”? Maybe they’ll buy it. :)
The picture of Tulowitzki and Pedroia as our middle infielders is just wonderful.

I'd go for that.
Hey, yeah, Tulo has no more potential, already had a career year, yada, yada. Then we bamboozle them on the merits of a Tavarez, Corry, Delcarmen trifecta. AND for a bonus, we’ll throw in Lugo. Yep, that works for me.
Maybe they'll be so thrilled
That they might put Matt Holliday in as well just for our trouble. :)

Hey, at least we'll start the next inning with our lineup turned over
with our leadoff, wait, no, you’re telling me Coco was leading off tonight? WTF? #2 hitter to start things off.
"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"
Coco as our leadoff guy
That’s like having Lugo as our cleanup hitter. I wonder why they keep trying that. Coco has great speed and all, but that won’t do him much because he just can’t get in well enough.
Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
by MerryGoByeBye on May 6, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions
It's because Ellsbury is the leadoff hitter
Because Coco is playing for Ellsbury, he’s going to hit in his slot. That’s the only explanation I have for it.
(Basing this on observations of the Brewers; Ned Yost did this with the backup center fielders when Mike Cameron was suspended. He also does this on occasion when Craig Counsell replaces bits of the infield; the bit depends on the day.)
a 9-pitch inning.
If the pitching style wouldn’t screw them up so badly, I’d make Lester and Daisuke watch tape of this start from Wake on a continuous loop for the next few days, no breaks.

I suppose that's true.
But it also seems like he’s a lot of times being brought in with inherited runners. No one else seems to be getting a shot in those situations, and I doubt the Sox are doing it with this notion in mind, but he’s being set up to fail.
"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"
Also, if we're going to use tonight's 9th to try to help someone work out their issues
