Get Well Soon - Brandon Moss!
BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox outfielder Brandon Moss had an appendectomy at Massachusetts General Hospital on Saturday night, one day after hitting a solo homer to spark a victory.
"Brandon Moss is in surgery right now having his appendix removed," Boston manager Terry Francona said after the Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 12-4 on Saturday night. "He was feeling ill and the medical team felt that there was a possibility rather than just an abdominal flu that this was a possibility."
Team spokesman John Blake said about 30 minutes later that Moss was out of surgery.

There's nothing to indicate that this is serious
But nevertheless, best wishes…

It was a little surprising that they got another pitcher instead of a position player. Hansen looked good in his callup (aside from the Kotchman HR), so I’m pleased to see him, but the greater need seems to be 4th OF or reserve player. The team is one injury away from Lugo in the outfield again.

This suggests that Ortiz is okay, I suppose
Bottom 9th B:1 S:0 O:0 With Bill Mueller batting, Dave Roberts steals (1) 2nd base.

I think
Tito was giving Ortiz rest, b/c Kazmir’s basically always had his number. And isn’t our 4th OF Coco?

I'm suggesting that the knock-on effect
is that Ortiz might be okay, therefore Manny is de facto starting LF, and we don’t need to call up another OF.

Brad Wilkerson
Am I the only one getting sick of hearing that we are thinking about Brad Wilkerson? Why would we sign him. Moss is going to be out for a month probably as it can take up to 3 weeks to fully heal from an appendectomy (wikipedia). I think we can live with our 4 hot hitting OFs for one month. If one of them gets injured again during the next month. Then we might have to call up Chris Carter. He would not be the greatest replacement but it is better then spending alot of money for a worthless player for a month at most.
Why would we ever sign Wikerson?

Because we might need a 5th OF with Moss out and Coco / Drew hurting.

So we should go and spend 4 million on a player that will give us a BA of .230 and might give us one homerun in the 10-15 games he plays? Or we could go and bring up….
2008 AAA Stats
Jeff Bailey .318/.408/.557
Jon Van Every .289/.373/.505 with a great glove and good arm
Chris Carter .273/.328/.373
None of which are perfect and have their flaws but they are not guarantee suckness and they don’t cost any money.
