I don't wanna sound like an asshole
But Beckett looked bad more times this season than he looked good. We’re getting runs, but that won’t matter if he keeps giving runs to guys like ERIC HINSKE.

Yeah...
I was just thinking the same thing – including the part about not wanting to sound like an asshole. I would be perfectly happy if that were Wake or Lester on the mound, and ecstatic if it were Schill or Fatolo. That said, Beckett’s supposed to be a drop-dead ace, and the guy up there now is getting sloppy results…
I suppose I’m spoiled by last year…

Case in point
Beckett is fixing to walk in a run as we speak.
Prove me wrong, Josh…

He's always had a good one.
Used to play RF, iirc. Sadly, he is often off the mark these days.

On the plus side...
I am forced to admit that Lugo is looking sharp at the plate. WTF?

Yeah
When Lugo came in, with 2 out and a man at first, I said to myself “dead inning, I’m gonna do something else”. I went to read something, and when I came back, we had a run.
Somebody must have told Lugo “Stop playing like you’re trying to help the other team’s picher, or I’ll kick you ass real hard”. He’s been good lately.

Maybe I'm jinxing us...
But think the offense has officially come back home. 1 run on Scrappy and Papi back-to-back doubles

PAPI!!!
Ok, second 2b of the game, and now hitting over .200. He already passed Lowell in average, and it won’t take long until he’s hitting better than Drew.

In keeping with my typical pessimism...
How is Lowell looking?
From what I can tell, he seems fine defensively (read: GG-caliber third base), but he’s not hitting to regularly. Regression to the mean, lingering effects of injury on swing, or nothing to worry about?

I don't think he'll hit like last season anytime in the near future
But I think he’s still good. I just don’t know why Youk doesn’t bat ahead of him.

Shields
Up to 100 pitches in 4 innings. This could get ugly for the Devil Rays

HBP and then injury delay
I hope he’s okay.

Injury delay after a hit by pitch
that can’t be good.
What’s the follow-up [directed to those watching the game on TV…or radio]?

Stupid question
If you could choose between Evan Longoria and Alex Gordon, who would you? It’s amazing how many young talented 3rd baseman are coming up these days…

Lugo
Lugo is definately hitting better than last year, but I say again that in really clutch situation, he is a disaster. I have no confidence in his hitting ability in the clutch and just feel that someday this lack of ability is going to cost this team dearly. I’m sure his team mates know this as well, but he does seem accepted by the team. Strange??
