GameThread: Rays (16-12) @ Red Sox (17-13)

First, let me just say I hate the last two weeks of a semester. I've been so busy that it seems like the Red Sox have gone extinct.

Second, let's score some runs, shall we? Your starters:

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Clay Buchholz 1-2 4.08 1.28 27 10

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Edwin Jackson 2-2 3.86 1.30 22 16

And the lineups:

Off of work finally.

Couple thoughts:

F you too, Celtics. Just kidding, but win on Sunday.

You sometimes get these (what seems like it’ll be) 5-inning uneven starts from your young starters with good stuff and potential. Let’s just be glad Tampa’s has not had it at all tonight.

I apologize for no recap last night. I had some good sarcasm planned. I may still put it out there in a two-fer. We’ll see.

2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Let’s not let this get crazy…

Celtics

Can somebody explain to me WHY THE FUCK the potential tying 3 with 8 seconds to play was shot by Rajon Rondo?

Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone

by MerryGoByeBye on May 2, 2008 11:20 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

No idea. I thought that's why we had Cassell.

When those situations come up, Doc can go with Cassell, Pierce (if he hasn’t fouled out), Allen, Posey, and KG or Powe or even House if they think they need 5 options to shoot it.

by Allen Chace on May 2, 2008 11:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

You know

Posey had just hit a 3, a heavily guarded 3. The Celtics had 8 seconds to work the ball, and still tried the suicidal shot…

by MerryGoByeBye on May 2, 2008 11:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Seriously. I love Rajon Rondo

But if he’s not in there just for his speed and ability to pass, then there’s no need for him to be in on that possession.

"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"

by Allen Chace on May 2, 2008 11:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Agreed

He should not have been on court in that situation. Still, it’s the HAWKS. If the Celtics can’t beat them in Boston, well… But I highly doubt that.

Still, going to a 7 game series against such a weak team is not a good sign…

by MerryGoByeBye on May 2, 2008 11:27 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I actually think

we match up better against the Cavs anyway.

The Hawks really have some young, talented guys with desire, drive, and varying un-yet-met levels of potential.

The Cavs have LeBron and several guys whose games are limited in several ways.

And maybe I'm just saying this...

because I think the NBA RotY plays in Atlanta…

"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"

by Allen Chace on May 2, 2008 11:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

The Cavs suck

I hate that team. LeBron is maybe the best player in the game today, because his team is REALLY bad, and he can still make ‘em go deep into the POs. He wouldn’t be having that average anywhere else, but he’s sure better than Kobe ‘The Rapist’ Bryant.

Horford should have been indeed the ROY. Again, the NBA gives the award to a guy whose team sucked big time. I may never understand it.

by MerryGoByeBye on May 2, 2008 11:34 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

See.

Can’t blame Durant for his team sucking, or for doing exactly what he was probably told to do (throw up 20-70 shots a night). He did that, and did it all well.

But Horford was asked, especially as it became clearer they’d be in contention, to be everything they’d need a big man to be. And aside from being respectable at FT% and having an about average post game, he responded. What they asked him to do was tougher, and he did most all of it.

by Allen Chace on May 2, 2008 11:36 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Horford improved the Hawks

Durant did not. If he wasn’t there, it wouldn’t have made any difference, the Sonics would have sucked just the same way. I think Durant is the best player from that draft, and he’ll get a MVP or 2 before he’s done. But he wasn’t the ROY.

"Are you a real doctor, or a doctor like Julius Erving is a doctor?"

by Allen Chace on May 2, 2008 11:43 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Yeah, it's not his fault

I didn’t mean it that way. The Sonics are not a good team, and they only think about moving out. He couldn’t have done any better than he did. But still I wouldn’t name him ROY. It would be like giving MVP to LeBron.

Oh, absolutely not.

And I’m honestly thinking, with MDC’s struggles lately. (And I’m starting to think that his flu troubles might’ve been the worst of anyone on the team), going with:

7th: Aardsma/Lopez
8th: Oki
9th: Paps

Unless we get a bigger lead.

Paps

I don’t think we’ll need him. Maybe let Oki get the save.

If we had a bigger lead, that would be the only bad thing about not having Gagne this season. Maybe we should let Timlin fit his shoes. :)

Post-ASB, ideal bullpen:

Paps, Oki, MDC (who will get his internal system and/or head straight before then), Hansen (with Timlin voluntarily hanging em up), Aardsma (who will remember that walks = bad), Lopez (who really hasn’t been that horrible this year), and…I dunno. Masterson? Lee Gronkiweizneihjshljfkljhgoihjioguehrugbjfkljkljeufueh?
